"Operation Terminus" 23+ Search Warrants, 35 Arrests, 27,000 Marijuana Plants & 25 Tons of Marijuana Eradicated

San Andreas, CA...Beginning on 7/31/17 the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, The California National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, California State Water Board, Central Valley Regional Water Board, Calaveras County District Attorney's Office, California Highway Patrol and CalFire began the service of 23+ search warrants through Calaveras County relating to multiple ongoing criminal investigations regarding the illegal cultivation of marijuana and directly related environmental crimes.

The series of investigations began approximately 6 months ago and was titled "Operation Terminus". For those unfamiliar "Terminus" means "the end of the line". We are working in partnership with allied agencies to work toward ending the line of large group of marijuana growers who have come into Calaveas County from across the United States and other parts of California committing crimes and causing significant environmental damage in Calaveas County.

Due to the nature of our watershed systems in Calaveras County the environmental damage begins in our mountains and foothills has significant impacts "down to the end of the line" into other portions of California including the central valley and San Francisco Bay Area.

More specifically the Mokelumne River watershed which leads directly into East Bay Municipal Utilities District (EBMUD) reservoirs and the water source for millions of California residents. The area of this operation also includes the Stanislaus River drainage system which affects millions of residents and agricultural water in the central valley and beyond.

As a result, over 35 suspect have been arrested. As of this afternoon over 27,000 marijuana plants and 25 tons of marijuana have been eradicated or removed over the last four days. At least 11 firearms have been seized including firearms with serial numbers removed and an assault weapon or weapons. A little over $7,000 in cash has also been seized. And it is important to note that at one location we made two arrests and seized weapons and body armor.

A significant number of environmental crimes have also been located. The environmental crimes located include but are not limited to damage to the watersheds and waterways. Investigators also found illegal pesticide/herbicide use and evidence of marijuana growers discharging human waste into the waterways.

In addition several locations contained dangerous conditions that could have caused wildland and or structure fires through unpermitted or substandard electrical connections or by placing running generators to operate in areas with dried grasses or fire fuels.

The Operation Terminus criminal cases will be sent to the Calaveras County District Attorney's Office for review. The District Attorney has sworn in a specialized circuit prosecutor from the California District Attorneys Association to assist with cases involving crimes against the environment.

Of course everyone is upset about illegal grows here. One of the problems
is some of these folks are the same one's who property were raided and arrested last year.
We should be just as upset with the slap on the wrist they received and are up and at it again.
We need to incarcerate these people, not give them ridiculously low bail amount and let them
walk away, only to start the process again. This is just putting out the word that
one can grow illegally and nothing much will happen to you if you get caught.

As another has commented, it's all still growing and not harvest time. Still the plants are in the ground and lots of expense to get to this point. It's also amusing to see the range of value assigned but likely correct since it's a long way to determining what a plant will really yield and be worth.

Operation Terminus
Posted on: 2017-08-04 00:55:24   By: Anonymous

Many residents of Calaveras County have varying views on the way marijuana should be grown, processed, and controlled. These opinions should not be dismissed as unfounded or without reason because people are entitled to voice their opinions and views and give perspective to an issue that is not just in the dark but right out in the open. It is a shame that a simple idea of growing a plant that can provide relief to so many medical conditions has been cast into such an unsavory light. As someone who has spent my life working with plants I understand how the use of pesticides and fertilizers can both useful and detrimental to the environment.
The people to blame are not the growers who try to make a living farming the land appropriately, but those that don’t. The regulations set forth by the urgency ordinance were not only irresponsible but lacked the insight into the problems it would create. It left the public to fight amongst each other. With little to no oversight it left growers to their own devices. Some know what they are doing, many do not or could care less as long as profits are made.
Many others provide a lasting resource to many patients that have medical conditions and those that are just looking for recreational fun. Just like drinking beer or wine. Growing provides an agricultural platform for economic growth throughout the region.
I personally tried to convey my message to the agricultural commissioner and his office as well as the public code enforcers with no results. They had no room for an individual that had experience in both how things work and how to get things done. That is not how government works.
If you have a problem with how things are working out in this county you should be writing a letter to the supervisor from your district or complaining directly to the Sheriff’s office. Stop being so petty as to talk crap about every little thing on this site.
My name is Derek McCormick. Not anonymous. If you don’t like that shove it where the sun don’t shine. Grow up and take responsibility for the bull*bleep* you write.
