Bear Valley's J3's Compete at Sugar Bowl Junior Olympic Qualifier Slalom
Bear Valley, CA...Bear Valley's J3s competed at the first Junior Olympic Qualifying race of the season on Jan 19-21 at Sugar Bowl. The field included 89 men and 72 ladies competing for points toward qualifying for this year's JOs in Bogus Basin, ID. The weekend started out with favorable weather but snow showers moved in by Monday making visibility and snow conditions a bit tough. Nonetheless our team put in a good performance on all three days....
On Saturday, Hunter Capilla put in a brilliant performance placing 14th. Zac Comstock came in 23rd; Forrest Ferguson was 41st. For the ladies, Caitlin Porter took 32nd and Aline Bertrand came in 39th.
Sunday saw Zac Comstock moving up one position to 22nd; Hunter on his heels at 23rd and Justice Rasmussen in at number 40 after a disappointing second run. The ladies found their ski legs on Sunday with Alexis Habiger taking 19th just 3 hundredths off Caitlin in at 20th. Maddy Berry came in a respectable 34th followed by Aline at 39th.
On Monday, Justice led the pack taking 13th place. Zac followed in 19th and Forrest was not far behind at 22nd. Forrest also walked away with the "Hard Charger Award" given to the competitor who moves up the greatest number of places from their start position....Congrats!
For the ladies, Monday saw Alexis placing 30th followed by Caitlin at 31st. Aline consistently once again placed 39th.
Sugar Bowl Race Department would like to extend its special thanks to Mark Ferguson who was a terrific help on Monday with course maintenance. The race crew was short handed and Mark pitched in to help keep the course in
