The fire started on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at 3:56 p.m. and is currently at 15,500 acres in size with limited containment achieved according to CalFire. It is not known when the highway will reopen at this time.
Motorists should expect 60 minute delays and seek alternate routes.

According to CalFire, fire activity continued to grow throughout the night due to ample fuel, and steep terrain. Today

firefighters expect unfavorable weather conditions and aggressive fire behavior.
The communities of Hunters Valley, Bear Valley, and Hornitos continue to be threatened as the fire encroaches on culturally and historically sensitive areas. Traffic along HWY 41 & 49 will be impacted as a result of road closures.

CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 4, the Mariposa CountySherriff’s Office, and additional cooperating agencies on the Detwiler Fire will be hosting a community meeting in Mariposa at 6:00PM, Tuesday July 18, 2017 at the Mariposa County High School Auditorium, 5074 Old Hwy N, Mariposa, CA 95338.

Representatives from the agencies managing the incident will provide an operational briefing and be available for questions. Please arrive early as the meeting will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.

If you have questions about the meeting or the fire, please call the Fire Information Line at (844) MMU-FIRE.
