Great response and quick work as far as we know. Little scarey but all responders very reassuring! Thank you. Still working on it at 10:19.

Are You Ready?

I'm surprised at all the tall weeds along the highway 4 corridor.
Who is responsible for clearing that? One lit cigarette butt flying out a car window can put everyone in harm's way.
Are you done with your clearance?Do you have an evacuation plan?
Do you have plans for your whole household, including your animals?
Ready.gov has a free book for all households. All you have to do is call their 800# ...think about your neighbors and seniors and those with special needs. Get ready because we have a long time to go.

The high weeds everywhere are scary. As I travel all over it id just scary seeing people's ranchettes, homes and more with brush and high weeds not cleared. If another fire storm hits like the Butte Fire many will be so screwed once again.

Clearing brush and tall grass should be a priority for homeowners.

Agreed - except many of our ranches are now owned by elderly without a lot of family help - young people moving elsewhere for other jobs and careers. The weed abatement program was quietly slashed in the county budget a few years back. We have a ranch ourselves and weed whack it down along the roadside ourselves... Between those who are no longer able to physically or financially care for their rural properties and the county claiming to no longer have the financial resources to do so, a disaster waiting to happen.

Hate to sound like a crotchety old timer,,....but in my day.
Heck, I made hella cash shoveling sidewalks, cutting grass, raking leaves, clearing brush and other fieldwork, cash under the table so to speak.
How can any teenagers and twenty somethings be missing an entry into entrepreneurial business by not filling the need?

There is money waiting to change hands.

Drive along any back road in Calaveras County and you see the sane thing viewing old and new property owners alike. Scary as hell even often times near towns is just as bad.

I have to chime in. I am a volunteer property inspector and I was so upset and disappointed how many people have not even cleaned their property. Then there are others that their property looks amazing. The CDF and other first responders have enough to do trying to keep us safe. It is up to all of us to do our part. I realize some folks have problems getting this done for varied reasons and there are out reach programs to help. I am referring to the people who just don't care. Talking to other folks, we know there are people who try to "hide" their debris. You are not fooling anyone. You are just endangering yourselves, your neighbors and this entire community. Please help and do your part.
