Sheriff DiBasilio Announces Candidacy For Sheriff In 2018

San Andreas, CA...Sheriff DiBasilio has filed papers for candidacy for the 2018 election and has started the process of asking for public support. DiBasilio has worked at the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office for 15 years and was hired as a recruit by the CCSO in 2002. He proceeded to work up in rank holding various positions. Patrol Deputy, School Resource Officer, Sheriff’s Explorer Advisor, Detective, and Sergeant. On October 29th, 2015, Sheriff Gary Kuntz, DiBasilio’s boss and friend, died unexpectedly. In May of 2016 DiBasilio was appointed to Sheriff of Calaveras County by the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors by a 4 to 1 vote, with 4 other men applying for the position, to fill the remainder of Sheriff Kuntz’s second term in office.

The transition to Sheriff was uncomplicated as DiBasilio and the administration work towards the same goal which is also his campaign slogan; Keep Calaveras Safe. DiBasilio feels he leads the department with strong, progressive leadership with solid qualifications in law enforcement, budget oversight, personnel affairs, policy/procedure development, staff training, public safety, emergency response, investigation, and asset protection. He maintains the jail, courts, administration, patrol, investigations and substations. DiBasilio says he “leads by example, developing a professional team atmosphere to accomplish all law enforcement objectives”.

During his career DiBasilio has received extensive certificate program trainings such as S.W.A.T., Gang Investigations, Sexual Assault, Missing Persons Training, Crime Scene Investigations, National Incident Management Systems, Drugs, Guns & Gangs in Schools, Internet Child Abuse, Sexual Harassment Prevention, School Campus Chaplains Academy, Field Training Officer, I-300 Intermediate Incident Command System, The National Neighborhood Watch Program, Sheriff Management and various other trainings.

Since becoming Sheriff of Calaveras County, DiBasilio has implemented several programs. SafeTrade, a national safety initiative for completing online transactions safely, he recently updated the CCSO’s bicycle unit, created the Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET), worked to ensure that Correctional Officers have the ability to stay employed while in academy rather than have to resign their job, worked with the county to add 5 additional jail positions, will soon add 2 new detective positions, and practices Cops (community oriented policing) & Pops (problem orientated policing) programs that the department adheres to continually.

DiBasilio knows that there will be many issues to discuss this next year including, commercial cannabis, budgets and manpower but feels that he is the man for the job. “As laws, technologies, and times change, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office must adapt with new law enforcement strategies, policies, and implementations that will only be carried out with progressive ideas, continual development, effective communication and cohesiveness within the department, with outside agencies, with other county departments, and the trust of the residents”

DiBasilio, a Calaveras County resident of 39 years, lives with his wife Pam and stepdaughter Tanner in Wallace. He is a supporter of the various organizations and is active in the community. He enjoys rock crawling in his Jeep, visiting his children and grandchildren, and attending community events with friends.
DiBasilio’s campaign can be followed on Facebook/Instagram at “DiBasilio for Calaveras Sheriff 2018” in addition the public can sign up for newsletters or make a donation to The Committee to Elect Rick DiBasilio 2018 using PayPal at

Got my vote and will get many more with continued crackdown on illegal grows and registered sloppy, dirty growers and dealers! Not all approved grower/dealers are clean by their own admission!
