Calaveras County Rolls Out the Carpet for New CAO

San Andreas, CA...Robert C. Lawton was welcomed in as Calaveras County's New CAO at a reception ahead of the Supervisors meeting this morning. County employees and members of the community filled the Supervisors Chambers wishing him well as he takes the helm of county government....

Mr. Lawton comes to Calaveras County from Solano County. Mr. Lawton has extensive experience in not only county government but state government as well. He takes over amid trying economic times at the county. They are facing budget and other challenges in the year ahead. Everyone seemed upbeat at this morning and ready for the future.

We have video of Mr. Lawton's comments and also a few minutes of the public comments at the start of the meeting. Mark Twain Hospital president Feliciano Jiron was on hand speaking about the new Calaveras County Business Council. This group is comprised of leading businesses in the area. It's goal is the promote a healthy business environment in the county and work with county government to further these goals.

There were also comments on the state of Ambulance Service in the County as well. This issue has really picked up steam since Amercion Legion announced further cutbacks in coverage in the county. Most of the press outlets have run pieces on this topic during the last week. We initially broke the story last week when we given information on layoffs and staff cutbacks.

We have about nine minutes of video that our intrepid reporter Bethany Monk took of today's meeting. We will also have the full Supervisors meeting posted tomorrow night.
