Poor Grades Led To Threats Against Local Schools

Angels Camp, CA...On May 30, 2017 at approximately 9:45 PM, the Angels Camp Police Department received information of a possible threat to “shoot up” Mark Twain Elementary School, Calaveras River Academy, Calaveras High School, and the Angels Camp Police Station. The threat was made by students of Mark Twain Elementary School through social media and did not name any specific students by name.

The students making the threats, along with their parents, were immediately contacted the night the incident was reported. The students told officers that they were upset because of poor grades and they did not intend to act upon the threats. A search of the children’s home confirmed that there were no weapons available to them. The parents told officers t hat their children would be supervised and would not be attending school through the remainder of the school year.

The Angels Camp Police Department takes any threat to the safety of our school campuses and students seriously. Officers from the Angels Camp Police Department were present on campus before the start of the school day today and will remain on campus, and at graduation, through the remainder of the school year.

Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department was contacted prior to the start of the school day to handle the notification and security to the schools in their jurisdiction.

Anyone with information pertaining to any threat to the safety of our school campuses is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately.
