Reforestation on Land Affected by Wildfire and Tree Mortality Workshop Is May 31st.

Sutter Creek, CA...On May 31, 2017 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at the American Legion Hall, 12134 Airport Road in Sutter Creek the UC Cooperative Extension, Northern California Society of American Foresters, and CAL FIRE will be hosting this one day workshop aimed at foresters, land owners and others who are involved in planning and executing forest restoration projects. It will also be of interest to personnel working for agencies serving these clients. Restoration at multiple scales from the residential forest parcel to the landscape will be addressed.

Objectives: Outline the process of forest restoration from post-disturbance site preparation through tree planting and subsequent stand management including:
• Options for site preparation
• Requirements for identifying appropriate planting stock
• Procurement of planting stock
• Planting practices
• Alternatives for management of planted stands

Additional topics that will be covered include adaptation of planting practices to address desired future stand conditions and potential climate changes and financial assistance available to private landowners for undertaking forest restoration. The expected results of doing nothing will also be discussed.

There is no cost to attend this workshop but registration is required. Please register at https://reforestation.eventbrite.com. After registering you will be provided with further instructions on the workshop and the agenda of presentations.

This workshop is supported in part by a grant from the U.S. Forest Service, State and Private Forestry to Northern California Society of American Foresters.
