Runner Responds To Democratic Transportation Deal To Raise Gas Tax & Vehicle Registration Fees

Sacramento, CA...Board of Equalization Vice Chair George Runner issued the following statement regarding a deal reached by Democrats to raise the state excise tax on gasoline and increase vehicle registration fees:

"Leave it to elite, cosmopolitan Democrats to try and raise the gas tax on working-class and poor Californians who must travel further distances to work."

Demoncrats never found a tax they didn't like. That will hurt the 1% where they feel it the most. Oh, no, that will hurt the 99% also! That is so cruel! Just another reason to get rid of those evil autos.

This is NOT a bill for repairing the roads! It gives 50% to Transportation projects (i.e. the bullet train to no where)

It includes a constitutional amendment requiring that the money be spent only on transportation projects

Fix Local Streets and Transportation Infrastructure (50 percent)

Tax and license the bicycles that use the state highways and endanger themselves and others. It's one thing to ride in/through and around the local towns, but on the narrow state highways..nah.

You all sound a little bitter. Thank God I live in California. Let's fix the roads, pay for the high speed rail. Protect the environment. Move into a better future.
