Letter To The Editor Urging Yes On Measure B ~ By Vicky Reinke

Angels Camp, CA...It is important to understand who we are dealing with when it comes to the marijuana industry. They are an all cash huge profit business with large amounts of money and will stop at nothing to get their way. They do not want the good citizens of Calaveras to have a chance to vote on whether or not to ban commercial marijuana activities. Measure B is set for a special all mail-in ballot election. Ballots are to go out the week of April 3rd to be returned to the county registrar by May 2nd This is going to be an opportunity for the people of Calaveras to vote on whether they support a ban on all commercial marijuana activities in Calaveras County, with the exception of personal grows.

This is the second attempt by the community to put a ban proposal on the ballot. The first petition to ban was denied because of a technicality in the petition itself, so the voters were denied their vote at that time. Now, a second attempt has been successful to get the ban proposal on the ballot for May 2nd, so the voters have an opportunity to vote as to whether they want to ban commercial marijuana activities in our county.

But wait!!! The pro-marijuana group is attempting to stop this initiative from going to the ballot through lawsuits. On February 22, 2017 a Writ of Mandate was filed by Robert Bowerman a local marijuana advocate stating that the ballot arguments were untrue. On March 2, 2017 another lawsuit was filed by Calaveras Naturals, a marijuana dispensary, this time to sue the Board of Supervisors to remove Measure B from the ballot because of a procedural error in its wording. Really?!!

Don’t be fooled, this is a tactic used to stall or stop the process and intimidate the people. Don’t fall for this nonsense. Keep this kind of industry out of our county…nothing good will come from it! These types of tactics will only continue and get worse.

Please, Vote Yes on Measure B

Well your wrong. I care what she has to say. I've lived here 30 years and I DON'T want pot in my County. Take it somewhere else and those of you who want it go with it and grow somewhere else. That way we are all happy. The people of Calaveras get what we want no pot and the pot people get what they want just not in our County.

Awe Vicky, you spew the same nonsense as your buddies, Bill and Dave. You all look like fools in the face of actual facts, not to mention state law. Today's court proceedings will help set the record straight - not that you retired NIMBYS will acknowledge the findings. Why don't you spend some of your time, money, and efforts on a less ridiculous battle, and champion a few projects that might actually help our community, not hurt it.

The next will be different and you all will be held accountable with plenty of causes of action that will cost you money. Not only for the attorney you will need to hire but the end result will be funds you will be held accountable to pay. That's right pay you will when you lose your case

      Uninformed. No on Measure B.
Let Calaveras County supply California with Cannabis for Medical and Recreational purposes. Our county needs the money. We can repair our roads and the Sheriff can use it to get rid of the bad growers.
With a Ban there is no money for enforcement. I don't think the retired people want more taxes to pay for the Ban.
      Measure B is short sighted.

And how exactly is the sheriff going to get rid of the bad growers? So far, all of them appear to still be here with more of them coming all time. Maybe the ban isn't perfect solution, but when you look at the damages caused by commercial grow operations in other counties, allowing the current situation to continue seems foolhardy. And when I need to drill my well deeper because the water table drops, will the tax money pay for that? When species that are on the threatened list move to the endangered list, will the taxes pay for that? When the property values for non grow properties fall through the flour, will the taxes pay for that? Or when someone gets mauled by a loose pit bull, will the taxes pay for that. What about when someone dies. What then? Oh wait...

One cannot calculate how much cannabis has cost this county so far because no one's done an actual overall measurement taking into consideration expenses. Asking us to allow commercial cultivation so that we can fight commercial cultivation is ludicrous. Vote Yes on B. We're done with this campaign by special interests who don't value our county, it's health, or our citizens.

Didn't the people who want to ban commercial marijuana been caught lying a few times in the past? I think that when these folks lie and try to turn lies to fact, that swayed my vote to legalize marijuana like they did, and since the state of California legalized personal use, I'm voting for it. At least the growers are going about this in a legal matter and not throwing out lies like Vicky, Dave and Bill did.

I'm sort of curious as a bystander to all this how the YES people can blame the NO people for the ineptitude of the YES committee.

Technicalities? Yeah it's called the law. Making outrageous claims on a ballot argument? It's what the writ filed with the court is for.

We will find out if the court agrees or disagrees with your side.

I think we seem to be led to believe that alternative facts are valid, so long as they are repeated enough times.

State your case without embellishment and maybe you will prevail.

Your assumptions about how commercial businesses conduct themselves are wrong. Your simplistic outline of how personal grows would exist is very misleading. A mention of how medical patients would get access in the county is absent. It sounds like you don't have any idea about what is currently happening and what would happen if the ban passed.
Here is a question for you: how is Calaveras going to pay for the ban? A simple question without an answer.

Lawsuit needs to be filed against the BOS and the county for allowing this to get worse and worse. Property values are dropping unless you can find a dealer to buy your place and who wants dirty money. I don't want it if its going to result in another grower/dealer selling to the kids of this or any other county.

Many growers do not make good neighbors!
Large increase in traffic coming and going day and night.
Many loose dogs who are not all friendly.
      Use too much water.
Either high or drunk people carrying and shooting guns.
Property's are ugly, especially the fences and junk that accumulates.
      Chemical run-off.
      Many code violations.
Many with no permanent residences, just RV's and tents and not due to losing home to fire.
Smells awful, some of the growers at Sender's but especially during harvest, the stench is awful.
Definitely attracts more low-life's than usual.
Many of them are rude and very threatening related to their profits.
Violence potential is always looming, some we don't hear about.
Doesn't all this just make you so comfortable in your homes?

Or any non growers that want to live in what is increasingly being turned into a sh@t hole by these growers? Bet not. So tell me again how this helps the RESIDENTS of this county.

People in the cannabis industry need homes too. Have you looked at how much the rents and property prices have gone up in the last year? You think a ban will help? That will plunge the real estate market.

Growers need more housing for the work force and for their families. Your r1, hoa properties I'm sure can have a house and a yard and people living in them. Rents are too damn high and we need more housing stock in this county. It's baked into the cake that the industry will lift the rest of the economy along with it. Reinke dink the repub should know all that but her and bill and Dave and let's not forget old mustach cowboy mills are blinded by their hatred of young people it would seem.

We welcomed growers with open arms after the Butte fire and took their registration money. The recently commissioned U of P study determined the Cannabis now to be the largest commodity in Calaveras and a significant employer. To suddenly say "never mind" and we're keeping your money will result in many lawsuits the county cannot afford nor defend. Meanwhile, while employment numbers are on the rise elsewhere, Calaveras's continue to decline so let's add a few more people needing help to programs and resources already badly strained. Cannabis is already here and has been for some time. My vote will be against the ban in order to shine a light on the industry and bring it above ground as a legitimate industry.

See, that's the thing... it's, about more than just money. It's about quality of life. It's about safety. And it's, about the future. The future of both the environment and the residents of calaveras county. Just take a look at the environmental impact reports done for Humboldt and other northhern counties. The percentage of the water sheds being used by the cannabis industry runs anywhere from 20 to 30 percent. Four new endangered species in Humboldt. As far as using up services, what do you think will happen with all the seasonal trimmers during the off season. And what about the reduced air quality from the increased population? Say goodbye to being able to burn brush, or not having to smog your cars, or free use of transfer stations. There are always unforseen consequences. And as for open arms? Most of us were still reeling from the fire when all the growers were buying up property for cheap, and the county superintendents did not follow the people's wishes as evidenced by the pro growers being voted out.
