Commission On Aging For 2017

Murphys, CA...The Calaveras County Commission on Aging prioritized 2017 goals and objectives at a lively session held at Common Ground Senior Services in San Andreas on February 3, 2017. Very high on the list is to familiarize volunteers with the organization and its works. Towards this goal, the March Commission on Aging meeting March 3, 2017 will be held at the Murphys Senior Center, 65 Mitchler Avenue in Murphys at 10 am. Commissioner vacancies exist in Districts 1, 2 and 3 and the necessary volunteer form will be made available for anyone interested in applying.

Established and other prioritized projects for the Commission are the annual World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in June, Recognition for Volunteer Senior of the Year, distribution of the Vial of Life, the Senior Scope, detailing available senior services with locations and phone numbers. In 2017, the Commission looks to host a Calaveras County Centenarian of the Year.
Come and get involved with the group and its activities. Any questions may be directed to Rex Whisnand, Chair, on 209-785-8166.

You Volunteers Have a Heart of Gold
Posted on: 2017-02-28 05:08:04   By: Anonymous

Bless those volunteers and their heart of gold they have.
There's that those two words that go hand and hand, the "Golden Years" well they sure don't feel to "golden" to me, things hurt like they never had before. It's a crying shame, you work all of your life, and if it was a physical, demanding life of work, it tears your body apart as you age. The mind is there but the body is broken. I can now see why in other countries the retirement age is younger, because they want to do things in their retirement while they can physically still do it. Someone told me once, growing old ain't for sissies.
To those volunteers who take their time and help the "Elders" bless your heart for your time and caring for others. You really do have a heart of gold.
