Gary “Ramie” Corley 1962-2016

Angels Camp, CA...Gary “Ramie” Corley- Son, Brother, Father, Grandfather and Friend- Died on December 15, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Stockton. He was 54.

Born in San Bernadino, CA on October 5, 1962. At the age of 10 Ramie’s family moved to Angels Camp where he completed his education before joining the United States Marine Corp in 1980. While in the Marines, he was stationed in Cuba, Libya and Okinowa, Japan.

After his discharge from the Marines, he returned to Angels Camp where he later married and raised his two children. He often described becoming a father as one of his greatest accomplishments. He never lacked compassion and was a very devoted father and recently, grandfather.

With a giving soul and a passion for life, Ramie was active in the community, whether it be raising funds for a new playground, coaching shot put at Mark Twain Elementary or refereeing basketball games at Michaelson Elementary where he worked for over 13 years. Ramie was also the local Scout Master for several years and enjoyed mentoring young kids and encouraging them to spend time outdoors.

Ramie enjoyed hiking and backpacking and had a love for fishing. He enjoyed fishing tournaments and always looked forward to an annual camping and fishing trip in Bridgeport.

A simple man, Ramie will always be remembered for his kind and generous spirit.

Ramie is survived by his Mother, Mariana Bacoccini of Angels Camp; Sister, Carmie Vincent of Pine Grove and Brother, Eric (Nongrak) Corley of Tahuya, WA; Children, Ramie “Buddy” Corley of Sonora and Jessica (Kyle) Johnston of Angels Camp; Cherished Granddaughter, Hadley Johnston; Nephews Jimmy Leary and Ray Corley; Nieces, Amanda Terry, Biw Supakornpanit, and Breeana Corley; great nieces and nephews, a large extended family and many longtime friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Bud Bacoccini.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 11 AM at the Angels Camp Gun Club. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Ramie Corley Memorial Fund at US Bank. Contributions will be used for youth scholarships and community endowment in his honor.

RIP Ramie. We first met in grade school at Mark Twain and you always stood fast for what you believed to be right no matter what and that is what made you the real man you became. All of us who knew you will miss you greatly as you leave a huge hole in all of our lives. Ongoing prayers for all of your family, extended family and all of our friends far and wide. We will miss your smile, your laughter and your simple wisdom's you shared with all of us who would listen. We will miss you at all of our gatherings and dinner parties plus our BBQ's In The Park. You are no longer in any pain, nor sorrow nor worry and now sleep in the Bosom of the Fathers in the Earth awaiting that day our Creator will awaken you once again. When you and He will open the books and sit together and have that long awaited chat. Rest In Peace Brother.

We were friends while at Bret Harte but lost contact after graduation. I remember his quiet sense of humor and big heart. Sending my prayers to his family at this difficult and sad time.

His Heart gave out. He had one Heart Attack quite some time ago that he made it through but this one he could not get past. I think he would want all of us to watch our health better and to keep loving one another by standing by each other.
I had chatted with him for quite some time in Save Mart about 2 weeks before his passing. We had a great chat just standing there watching others go about their shopping. I will always cherish that talk. RIP old friend.

I have missed our long talks, old buddy, But reading some good by brings a sadness to my heart, Ramie use to come by to check up on me, My health is failing, He was concerned . Ramie had a ruff side, that I liked, we got along the first time I met him. He called me once to keep from going to jail , he had an altercation with another neighbor here at the park, so I met him there and cooled him down. He had the greatest love for his children I've ever seen and at times a temper that matches my own, not speaking ill of my friend just keeping it real. R.I.P. Ramie, Joel Purvis. Loved U.

I first met Ramie while subbing at Bret Harte sometime in the late 70's, he gave me the hardest time, but later in our lives, Ramie , now a man, working for VUSD, came up to me, and in our conversation, his dislike for me as a " rookie" sub came up, and he in that conversation explained why he treated me with disrespect. He apologized and I always respected Ramie for being a man and owning up to his behavior! We have come across each other for a number of years, always cordial, sorry to hear that his life ended so young! TChristian

Ramie, my friend, your chats around the campfire will be missed.
To the family, know that he was loved by many. The Michelson students adored him.
Eric, first Friday in June. Bring Ray, because Ramie said he was good at getting girls at the coffee drive thru.
Jessie, he loved you. Thanks for the haircut.
I'm half way a world away, but Ramie is in my heart.

Hey Ramie
I know your sitting in that big ole campsite in the sky. I know I'll always remember camping with you in Bridgeport. Hey, some of the best times in my life. I wish you peace as well as your family as the journey here continues.

I met Ramie when I was very little. He was one of the only friends of my sisters that was nice to me, even though I was so much younger. Anytime we were near his house, I would ask her if we could go see Ramie. I am so thankful to have known him and be his friend on FB. I loved keeping in touch with him. He is one of the nicest people I have every met. RIP. Debbie

Ramie was one of a kind,a friend to everyone. If you knew Ramie it was like winning the Lottery
I've known Ramie for over 39 years, spent a lot of time with him at Angels Creek ,we worked together on several of his project,s & he in turn helped me on mine
He was the kind of friend you didn't want to lose contact with so before the internet we stayed in contact by snail mail while he was in the service traveling around the world
I was looking forward to spending time with him on New Melonis this coming new year, It makes me sad that its not going to happen. I want his family to know they have my sincere sympathy, Greg Gran
