Former Astronaut & Senator John Herschel Glenn Jr. July 18, 1921 - December 8, 2016

Columbus, OH...John Herschel Glenn Jr. (July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016), (Col, USMC, Ret.), was an aviator, engineer, astronaut, and United States senator. He was one of the "Mercury Seven" group of military test pilots selected in 1959 by NASA to become America's first astronauts and fly the Project Mercury spacecraft. On February 20, 1962, Glenn flew the Friendship 7 mission and became the first American to orbit the Earth and the fifth person in space, after cosmonauts Yuri Gagarin and Gherman Titov and the sub-orbital flights of Mercury astronauts Alan Shepard and Gus Grissom. Glenn is the earliest-born American to go to orbit, and the second earliest-born man overall after Soviet cosmonaut Georgy Beregovoy. Glenn received the Congressional Space Medal of Honor in 1978, and was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1990. With the death of Scott Carpenter on October 10, 2013, Glenn became the last surviving member of the Mercury Seven.

Wow...the last of the Mercury 7

I remember watching the Mercury launches as a kid on black & white TV. I hope all of their names will be remembered as the first space pioneers. A rowdy bunch, but definitely had the "Right Stuff"to lead our country and the world into space exploration. If you never read Tom Wolf's book, "The Right Stuff", it's a great read and a flash from the past of early space ventures. I am sure you can find it in the library.

Edward Thompson (25 June 1881 – 15 July 1954) was Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway between 1941 and 1946. Edward Thompson was born at Marlborough, Wiltshire on 25 June 1881.[1] He was the son of an assistant master at Marlborough College. He was educated at Marlborough before taking the Mechanical Science Tripos at Pembroke College, Cambridge, earning a third class degree.[2][3] Thompson's academic background contrasts with that of his predecessor Nigel Gresley, who had also attended Marlborough,[4] but then gained practical experience as a pupil at Horwich Works.

        Moderate Republican - None Now

Glenn exemplified a Republican that is long gone now .
He worked with Democrats for the good of the people, now he would be denigrated as a sell-out.
I mourn this great American, who showed the right stuff, long gone now.
Great Americans like Glenn should be examples of a government that works for the people , not now, as the $Billionaires bought the media, and soaked minds with misinformation and hate. Now we have a not popular elected demagogue, who relied on Crosscheck and denying legal voters their vote to "win" (sic).

The only hope now is the electoral college delegates will exercise their right to deny Drumph his plan to destroy America for his $Billionaire pals. This is why we have the Electoral College according to John Hamilton, one of the founding fathers.

A look at drumph's appointments, would turn John Glenn's stomach. None are appropriate to serve the people. Government is to serve the people, not the $Billionaires.

        RIP John Glenn

Duh, Sen. John Glenn was a life long Democrat from a time when Democrats were honorable people who served and respected their county unlike the socialist politically correct riff raff that has infested the party presently.
