Vallecito Teachers Association Endorses Singleton For School Board

Avery, CA...The teachers of Vallecito Union School District are very proud and excited to announce their strong endorsement of Susan Singleton for the position of VUSD School Board Trustee. Singleton recently retired from teaching, after 20 dedicated years. She has earned the support of all her colleagues due to her ability to work effectively with diverse groups in a variety of arenas.

Singleton took on many roles over the years, contributing her expertise on committees such as Curriculum and Instruction Council, Financial Review Advisory Committee, Technology Committee, School Site Council, and the Vallecito Teacher's Association (VTA) where she served in the roles of President and Negotiator.
About her years in Vallecito, former Michelson colleague, Michelle Wright, says, "She was not only beloved by her students, but a teacher to whom others went for advice. She has a depth of knowledge in areas of curriculum and budgets, and knows the history of the District that will enable her to make considerate decisions to continue providing the best education for our students."
Singleton has earned the respect, trust, and support of her colleagues who know she has a unique perspective as a result of her vast experience.
"Susan asks questions, seeks answers, and studies and weighs the pros and cons of an issue. But more than anything else, she cares. She puts the kids first and always has.", says Avery teacher Tobie Doyle.

Singleton retired just a few months ago, and initially had not intended to run for the Board so soon. No rest for the weary? She just felt like the time was right, and she shouldn't wait.
As Hazel Fischer teacher, Linda Rasmussen, explained, "We have made good progress with our current Board, and want to keep the momentum going. Susan knows them all, and I believe she will work seamlessly with the current members and also the District Administration."

Singleton understands the timely issues the District is addressing in regards to new language arts and science curriculum (NGSS and STEAM), Common Core Standards, the technology advancements with student devices and programs for instruction and diagnostics, as well as the inner workings of the district, like the complicated budgets and LCAP. It is clear she will not have the normally big learning curve many new members do after being elected.

"It is so exciting that Susan has decided to stay involved in the District. She retired and we miss her influence here at school. She would be a great addition to the VUSD Board, and I know she will make balanced and reasonable decisions for everyone with attention to all three school sites", added teacher Michelle Wright.
The teachers of Vallecito Union encourage you to join them in voting for Susan Singleton for the Board of Trustees!

Please vote carefully. We have a wonderful district and need the best people. Mrs. Gordon was rightfully censured by the board and is not fit to serve. Hopefully she will come back to full health, but please do not vote for her.

Susan Singelton is out of touch with our district's needs. So is Ralph Emerson.
I won't be voting for either of them.

My daughter went through Susan Singelton's class. On more than one occasion, Ms Singelton humiliated children to the point that they cried.
These were 8 to 9 year old children.
Although my daughter was not the target of this treatment, the experience of watching her classmates suffering was torture, and still bothers her today. She's now graduating high school.
We don't need a bully on our school board. Please don't vote for her!

These negative comments are a smear campaign! Susan was an outstanding teacher who earned Teacher of theYear honors two times. She made learning fun and has great sense of humor!
Do not believe these false negative statements!

So parents and students recollections of their experiences with her is a smear campaign? How so?

Hate to burst your bubble, but everyone gets teacher of the year. It's like student of the month, except for teachers.
Why is a parent's personal experience a smear campaign?
I'm guessing this comment was made by another teacher in the district.
News flash for you: you don't get to quash a voter's opinion just because it's not in line with your personal agenda.

I taught with Susan Singleton for several years and calling her a bully is a downright lie/ She was revered by the staff and loved by the students. Jenny Baxter

You, my dear, are out of your mind. Susan is better qualified than anyone who has ever run for this office. She is more in touch with the current issues than anyone else on the ballot. Not even close!

Of course Vallecito teachers want a former colleague on the board.
I bet it will make pay raise negotiations easier.

This is a true statement. Do not be fooled by the word "teacher" behind her name. Mrs. Gordon is not fit to serve on the board again nor was she fit the first time she was elected. Let's hope her mental health becomes healthy again, but in the meantime she needs to keep her distance from students, staff and the VUSD board. I know this first hand since I taught with Mrs. Gordon for years! Jenny Baxter

I've known Mrs. Singleton for years. Not only was she an outstanding teacher, she knows the ins and outs of district policy and finances as well as anyone. She is truly incredibly well qualified. Would be an enormous asset to the district and our students....

      Right!
Mrs. Singleton gets an "A" for Awesome!
She is so smart, funny, and dedicated to the school! She is willing to take on this job, which is not a lot of fun, and I am thankful for her.
