Mother Lode Jewish Community Plans Fall Events

Jamestown, CA...On Sunday, October 23rd the MLJC will be celebrating the end of Sukkot as well as Simchat Torah, which occurs on the Jewish calendar just 2 days later, at a potluck brunch gathering in Jamestown. MLJC member Rabbi Andra Greenwald will share the history and traditions of these two holidays with the group and, after brunch, two ceremonies linked to them will take place. Anyone interested can register at the MLJC website, www.motherlodejewishcommunity.org

This will be followed by two events in November, a free seminar on Jewish Life Cycles that will take place in Murphys on Sunday, Nov. 13th and a Brush and Cork painting party happening on November 20th in Sonora. Both are pot-luck brunch affairs. Rabbi Andra Greenwald will lead the seminar and Sonora artist, Judy Grossman will run the art class, which takes place at her downtown Sonora area studio. This is a “grown-up paint by numbers” (without numbers) art class, painting a “Tree of Life”. The cost is $45 and the deadline to register is November 10th. You can register online at www.motherlodejewishcommunity.org or mail payment to MLJC, PO Box 1142, Angels Camp, CA 95222.

Also, be sure and calendar Thursday evening , Dec. 29th for the MLJC Hanukkah party which will be held in Murphys.

The MLJC’s mission is to provide opportunities and events that nurture a vibrant and enduring Jewish identity, culture and community in the Mother Lode, drawing members from Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties. New members are always welcome. Please call 209-533-1650 to learn more. The activity calendar on the MLJC website (www.motherlodejewishcommunity.org) includes a list of scheduled gatherings, which take place primarily in the Murphys/Copperopolis and Jamestown/Sonora areas.
