Off the Beaten Path, The Walk/Run For Autism Awareness

Murphys, CA...Off the Beaten Path, the Walk/Run for Autism Awareness, to be staged for the fifth year on Saturday, April 30 in Murphys Community Park will be a multi-faceted activity. The money raised will go to support Mind Matters, the Murphys based non-profit clinic that treats Autism and other learning disorders. El Dorado Savings Bank is the day’s major sponsor.

The main event will feature a 1K run, open to boys and girls aged seven and younger, and two other races, 5K and 10K, open to men and women of all ages. Before and after the runs there will be a variety of other activities in the park. Breakfast and lunch items, prepared by the Murphys Historic Hotel, will be available for purchase. There will be opportunities to have your picture taken by Neriah Fox, Krystina Jarnagin will be doing face painting, Holly Johnston will be juggling, and Plan B will fill the air with stimulating music.

For the runs, the scenic course will begin at the park and continue on Six Mile Road past rolling hills and beautiful vineyards. Participants who would rather walk than run are welcome to do so. Check-in time will start at 7 a.m. The 1K children’s race will take place at 8 a.m.

Following a warm-up session, conducted by Kat Juarez-Sutton, the 5K and 10k races will begin at 9 a.m. Awards will be presented in a variety of categories.

The entry fee for the 5K and 10K races is $30. There is no charge for the 1K and race support runners, such as parents or older siblings, are welcome.

Entry blanks are available at many locations, including the Mind Matters office, 150 Big Trees Rd. in Murphys. They may also be downloaded from the website www.mindmattersclinic.org. Online registration is available by going to www.active.com and searching for Off the Beaten Path. Further information is available at 728-2184. Participants may register at the park on the day of the event.

During the day there will be opportunities to learn about the many programs offered by Mind Matters that provide services to families dealing with a variety of learning and emotional issues.

Mind Matters exists to help individuals and families cope with the consequences of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD), and Learning Disabilities. The clinic does it through treatment, counseling, and education. It also strives to promote a better public understanding of these debilitating health issues. Mind Matters is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and donations to help extend its services are always welcome.

Event occurs on 04/30/2016 from 07:00 AM to .
