Mountain Oaks Students Honored at California Student Media Festival
San Andreas, CA....Caleb Young, Andrew Busser and John Rowitz, students at Mountain Oaks Charter School were recognized at the 49th Annual California Student Media Festival on Saturday, June 6th. The Festival, held in Hollywood, is the nation’s oldest student media festival and focuses on celebrating videos projects being produced by students throughout California.

Caleb Young’s video, “Ben’s Infamous Adventure” portrayed the discovery of electricity by Benjamin Franklin won a Special Category award.. Andrew Busser, working with John Rowitz, submitted their “Getting Fit” video, winning in the Physical Education category. Technology Coordinator, Jalynne Redman, who along with Mentor Teacher, Monika Riedel worked with this year’s team, said “we were thrilled that our students from Calaveras County, were recognized for their talent, creativity and hard work.
This is the first year that we introduced Clay Animation and video production to our students. It’s a highly competitive competition. The students did a phenomenal job writing scripts, filming, adding sound and working with stop motion animation ” Anne Colman, an Administrator at Mountain Oaks Charter School, stated that “these awards were a wonderful conclusion to this year’s technology program, which the Mountain Oaks Governing Board has been most supportive of.”
