Angels Camp Parade and Open House Nov. 29

Angels Camp – Nov. 20, 2014 –The Angels Camp Business Association presents the grand kick-off to local holiday celebrations Saturday, Nov. 29 with the third annual Christmas of Angels Open House from 4 to 8 p.m. and the 24th annual Parade of Lights beginning at 5 p.m. in historic downtown Angels Camp, rain or shine...

Merchants will be offering a number of special discounts during the Open House and Wine Stroll starting at 4 p.m., as well as festive treats and beverages, local wine and a sidewalk sale. The holiday ambiance is enhanced with caroling and performances by a local violin school. Included in the merchant offerings is a “draw a discount” at the Clothes Mine ranging from 5 to 20 percent off regular-priced sportswear, drawing for a $75 gift basket at Market 49 and chocolate, cheese and charcuterie samplings, and a 10 percent discount at Prestige Gallery on purchases of $25 or more on non-sale items.

Caroling begins at 4:15 in front of the Visitor’s Center and the City tree will be lighted there at 4:30 p.m.

The Parade of Lights commences at 5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church, 820 S. Main St., showcasing a wide range of entries including Santa on a fire truck, a float themed from the movie “Frozen” by Calaveras Lumber, the Sacramento Shriners in mini cars, Sierra Angels Car Club, Jr. Miss Calaveras, music, horses and marchers. The parade is co-sponsored by ACBA and Calaveras Lumber. After the parade Santa will hear children’s wishes at the Calaveras Visitors Center with photo opportunities.

Firman Brown has been chosen as the Grand Marshal of the Parade, chauffeuring Grand Marshalls in this parade for the past thirteen years in his vast collection of vintage cars. This year he will be in the back seat with his wife, Janet Cuslidge.
Firman was one of the founding members of the Friends of the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee and has been President for the past six years. He promotes the Fair and Angels Camp, in some way, every day. He is active with the Mark Twain Hospital Foundation, and the Hospital District Board, regarding their properties. He is a past treasurer of the Angel Camp Business Assn.
"Most people have no idea how much Firman does for this community, from his patronage to the Fair to hanging all our handmade Christmas boughs on the light poles every year,” explained Candy Myers, co-chairman for the parade. “Once the Board started mentioning all the things he has done for our city, Firman was the ideal choice!"
Awards for parade entries will be presented in the following categories: floats, vintage vehicles, horse groups, schools, musical groups, businesses and individuals. Entry fee is $10 and forms are available at christmasofangels.com or by calling the ACBA office, 736-1333.

“We’ve moved the time of the parade up to 5 p.m. so the lights will really shine this year,” explained Myers. “Calaveras Lumber in Angels Camp has ordered a good supply of battery-operated lights to make lighting entries easy. Please join us!”
