“A HOLIDAY MEMORY MAKER”~ Columbia Presents the 2014 Edition of "MERRY MERCHANTS"
Columbia, CA...Columbia’s Merry Merchants invite you and yours to enjoy an evening of old fashioned Christmas Charm in Columbia, Friday evening, December 12 until 8:00 p.m. Christmas shopping without a mall? Crowds? Traffic? That’s Columbia! Enjoy the benefits of holiday cheer without the mall, crowds or traffic....
Take an evening out for a relaxing stroll among carolers, enjoy a free horse-drawn carriage ride, see Father Christmas and take a photo, roast some Chestnuts, partake of hot cider or chocolate, enter the Gingerbread contest, marvel at old-time decorations and best of all, shop with Merchants who are Merry!
Our Merry Merchants want YOU to enjoy the season, so we give back this evening event to all of you who help support our community all year long.
Find something for almost everyone on your list as Columbia’s Merry Merchants offer a variety of gift items that you just won’t find in modern shopping venues. Along with the many Merry Merchants who are extending their hours into the magic of the evening, the Columbia Museum and Museum Store will be open until 8 pm, the Sierra Repertory Theater will be producing a performance of “Sanders Family Christmas” at the Fallon House Theater, the Columbia Docents will be enacting the annual “Miner’s Christmas” at various settings around town and Friends of Columbia State Historic Park will be sponsoring one of the five “Victorian Feast” dinners at the City Hotel.
“There is more to do and see in Columbia during the holidays this year than in recent memory”, proclaimed Gary Neubert, President of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. “With the Christmas-themed SRT play at the Fallon theater, Miner’s Christmas, Gold Rush Days, Lamplight Tours, Victorian Feast, the All-Equestrian Parade and Los Posadas all occurring right here on Main Street in Columbia in the span of just a few days, visitors and locals won’t have to work hard to make wonderful holiday memories”, Neubert continued.
“On Friday evening, December 12, our Merry Merchants welcome you all to take a step back, slow down and relax for a bit by visiting Columbia anytime in the afternoon and evening up until 8 p.m.”, event organizer and Merry Merchant Cheryl Nelson said. “Children carolers and our own singing cowboy will provide holiday music with a grand finale of all the carolers planned at the Gazebo near the end of the evening”, she explained.
Columbia town shops and some attractions will be open and activities will abound (weather permitting). Rain or shine, the merchants will be Merry. It’s a great annual event that provides an opportunity to take a break from modern holiday activities and visit a time and place of fewer complications and more emphasis on tradition and merry-making.
