Larry White Featured at Hovey in November
Murphys, Oct. 22, 2014 – The highly acclaimed and award-winning photography of Larry White will be featured the month of November at Hovey Winery Tasting Room, 350 A Main St., Murphys. An artist’s reception will be held in his honor from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9. Complimentary appetizers will be served and wine will be available by the glass for $5....
White began his photography career began about 40 years ago when he purchased his first 35 mm camera. He was inspired by Ansel Adams’ black and white techniques and learned to process both film and prints in a home darkroom from many trips to Yosemite and the Sierra Foothills. He also started shooting with medium-format cameras.
When he started a family in the late 1970s, he temporarily stopped his photography business. After his two daughters were raised, he picked up photography again, this time with a digital camera. Besides Yosemite and Sierra Foothill subjects, he enjoys macro photography of flowers and things that “sometime may go unnoticed.”
White has exhibited at the Adobe Gallery and Bank of the West in Castro Valley and at PhotoCentral in Hayward. He has won several first-place awards in art competitions and Best of Show at the Calaveras County Fair. His work is in private collections all over the United States and is currently displayed at Art on Main in Murphys and Prestidge Gallery in Angels Camp. He resides in Murphys.
“Larry is absolutely passionate about photography,” stated Jan Hovey. “The images he captures are absolutely amazing and leave a lasting impression. I can’t wait to see his work in the tasting room.”
Guests are invited to taste new releases from Hovey Winery including the 2012 Petite Sirah and 2012 Cinsaut, as well as award-winning varietals. Hovey Tasting Room is open daily from noon to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call 728-9999 or visit hoveywine.com.
