Monday, November 19th Last to Turn in Your Boxes for Operation Christmas Child 2007
Angels Camp, CA...Once again we have an opportunity to bring love, joy, and hope to hurting children around the world through a gift-filled shoe box. The 2007 Collection Week is November 12 through 19. We had the pleasure of interviewing Patricia Hopper last year about what Operation Chistmas Child is all about....
.
The Relay Center (shoe box collection site) is located at First Baptist Church of Angels Camp, 1555 Depot Road. The hours will be as follows:
Monday thru Friday--November 12th thru 16th : 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Saturday--November 17th: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Sunday--November 18th: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Monday--November 19th: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Please call Patricia Hopper at 785-3631 or 770-3631 for any information or special needs, such as:
* to tell her of deliveries of more than 100 shoeboxes so she can schedule volunteers during that time.
* you have not received your OCC Resource Kit, including the 2007 DVD.
* you need more OCC brochures or posters.
* you would like for someone to come to your group to talk more about OCC.
I am excited once again to be a part of this ministry that God is using to spread His love and the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Allso, you can download other resources at www.samaritanspurse.org -- such as bulletin inserts, boy/girl labels, and form letters for children to fill in. Other information to remember about packing your shoe box...
* Remember to use a "regular" size shoe box and not the "boot" size. The reason is that more shoe boxes can be packed into a carton and when exactly 420 cartons can be loaded into a sea-going container, it means more children will receive a gift.
* Please place candy and soap in separate plastic zip-bags; this helps avoid the perfumes of the soap spreading to the taste of the candy.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD RELAY CENTER
· Things NOT to include are: liquids of ANY KIND, used items, war or weaponry toys, chocolate (it melts), other food items (freshness, dietary restrictions, allergies, and import laws), medicines of any kind, including vitamins.
* The most important thing to pack into your shoe box is prayer. Also include a photo of yourself, a short note of greeting, and (if you would like to possibly receive a response) your address. You might use your church's address for groups of children.
* If possible, add a donation of $7.00 with each shoe box--place it inside and on top of the gifts. One donation can be made inside one shoe box for multiple shoe box gifts, or you can donate online through www.samaritanspurse.org. The donation helps with the cost of gospel literature and shipping costs.
Some Upcoming Dates to Remember:
Sunday, November 4th at 10:00 a.m.--guest speakers at Copper Canyon Baptist Church (Copperopolis Elementary School)--Susan & Steve Nelson, who have distributed shoe boxes in India
Sunday, November 11th at 5:30 p.m.--the EDGE Youth Group from Copper Canyon Baptist Church will be at the Relay Center (First Baptist/Angels Camp) to help set up tables and tape up cartons to get us off to a good start on Monday, November 12th
Sunday, November 18th at 6:00 p.m.--Copper Canyon Baptist Church Harvest Dinner and Shoe Box blessing at Copperopolis Elementary School
As a brief update from 2006, there were 7.6 million shoe boxes distributed worldwide in over 95 countries. The West Coast Processing & Distribution Center (Santa Ana) processed over 400,000 collected from California, Nevada, and Hawaii. Our local Relay Center collected over 2,100 shoe boxes from within the counties of Amador, Tuolumne, and Calaveras. The shoe boxes from the West Coast Center went to children in the countries of Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Mongolia, Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Praise God!!
I look forward to seeing all of you during Collection Week and I pray God's blessings abound as we work together for His glory!!
PS—A great source of shoe boxes is Payless Shoe Source in Sonora--they are expecting you!! Other possibilities are Wal-Mart and Big 5 Sporting Goods.
