Due to the fact that the caller had provided only a vague description of the area where the shooting occurred, Deputies checked the length of Sheepranch road, and soon discovered an area consistent with the description provided by the caller. Deputies hiked into the area on foot, and discovered remnanta of Marijuana plants left on the traiL. The deputies also discovered evidence that suggested that a firearm may have been recently fired in the area.
After following the trail of marijuana remnants, a large outdoor marijuana garden was discovered, and later eradicated pursuant to a search warrant. Deputies and members of the Calaveras County Narcotic
Enforcement Unit removed over 3000 marijuana plants, and seized over 10 pounds of processed marijuana from the garden. No persons were located within the garden.
The garden appeared to have been tended to workers who lived within a primitive camp in the garden, and was likely grown for a Mexican drug trafficking organization.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit at (209) 754-6564.
