Evalyn "Jan" Janece Doggett - 1932 - 2014
Jan was born on May 23, 1932 in Goldthwaite, Texas and passed away at the age of 82 on July 15, 2014 in Modesto, California. She is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Homer Doggett. Jan Graduated from Pampa High School (1950) in Pampa, Texas and has kept up with her classmates and many remain close friends. While in High School she was active in the band and played the saxophone. She graduated from Texas Tech University in 1954 and has returned there many times for reunions and to visit with her many friends. During her college years she was in an acapella quartet. She taught Physical Education for 2 years in Denver, CO, Lancaster, CA for 4 years and lastly for 31 years in Palo Alto, CA at Cubberley High School, Palo Alto High School and JLS Middle School. Jan kept up with many of her students over the years...
One student commented that “I remember her quiet, stern focus as a coach but always with a relaxed smile and spending time listening and chatting with her students”. During her tenure her teams won several CCS Badminton championships. She developed an innovative PE program while at Cubberley and was in the student/staff musicals.
One of Jan’s greatest joys was to attend the Stanford Women’s volleyball and basketball games and was a season ticket holder for over 30 years. She also loved to travel in the motorhome and made many trips back and forth across this country. She also traveled with her travel buddy, Kathy, using her World Mark travel shares and especially enjoyed Hawaii.
Jan leaves her travel buddy, care giver, and dear friend Kathleen Walsh who will greatly miss her.
A celebration of her life will be held October 18th Lodge at 20589 Homestead Road, Cupertino, CA from 12 to 2 PM
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mills County Cemetery in Goldthwaite, Texas (for maintenance and care) or to the American Cancer Society.
