Murphys Bocce Courts Fundraiser At The Garden July 26th
Murphys, CA...Following years of anticipation, the Murphys Community Club (MCC) in partnership with the Angels-Murphys Rotary is about to start construction of two bocce courts as part of an extension of the much used community park. “We have had numerous requests from individuals, groups, and service clubs to add this popular sport to our agenda of things to do in Murphys,” states MCC president Suzanne Friedman. “After extended negotiations, and meeting the rigid government requirements, the project is now ready to proceed but we will need the help of all concerned.”
To help pay for the project, the MCC is staging “A Summer Evening Under the Stars” fundraiser to be held Saturday, July 26 starting at 6 p.m. in The Garden in Murphys. The site, located adjacent to Murphys Community Park, features one of the original homes built in the Murphys area. Built by James Inks in 1860, the house has large decks on the front and back of the house and is surrounded by beautifully maintained yards with fountains, bird feeders and large trees throughout.
Owned by Steve and Carolyn Gonzales, The Garden has become a popular site for weddings and other family oriented events. Steve Gonzales is a Murphys Community Club board member and is letting the club use the property free of charge for this fundraiser.
The evening will begin with a no-host wine bar and appetizers from 6 to 7, followed by a buffet dinner prepared by Wren Catering & Events. The menu will consist of two entrees, grilled flat iron steak and seared breast of chicken, assorted side dishes, and dessert. The cost is $75 per person.
Following dinner there will be dancing to music provided by disc jockey Kim Evans until 10 p.m.
“We are happy to be working with The Angels-Murphys Rotary to create these courts,” says Friedman. “We have also had help from the Native Daughters and several local contractors and suppliers.”
“We are counting on these groups, and others, to help make this fundraiser a success by spreading the word and encouraging members to buy tickets. The event is open to everyone and we look forward to a pleasant evening in a beautiful location.”
Reservations are necessary, and space is limited. A place at the event can be secured by calling Friedman at 728-8183.
The Murphys Community Club is a non-profit organization responsible for the care and programming of Murphys Community Park located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys.
