A Tribute to Wildland Firefighters at Pinecrest Amphitheatre
Sonora, CA…The Stanislaus National Forest will present “Into the Fire” (Songs and Stories from the Fireline) in honor of wildland firefighters at the Pinecrest Amphitheatre on Wednesday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m. Interpretive Ranger and Wildland Firefighter, Patrick Karnahan will be joined by members of the local Black Irish band to perform many of the band’s original songs from their 2007 release- “Into the Fire.” The program will feature many of the band’s music videos related to firefighting. Karnahan will demonstrate a variety of fire gear and share stories about the history of the Forest Service...
At the end of the presentation there will be a special tribute to the men & women that died in the 1994 South Canyon Fire, almost 20 years to the date of this special presentation.
2014 marks the anniversaries of two particularly tragic fire seasons—1994 and 2013; fire seasons measured by, and remembered for, the historic loss of life suffered by the wildland fire community.
· July 6, 2014, marks the 20-year anniversary of the 1994 South Canyon fire incident in Colorado, where 14 U. S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management wildland firefighters lost their lives.
· June 30, 2014, is the first anniversary of the 2013 Yarnell Hill fire incident in Arizona where 19 members of the Granite Mountain Interagency Hotshot Crew (IHC), sponsored by the Prescott Fire Department, lost their lives in the line of duty.
Interpretive Ranger- Patrick Karnahan will present a special music video he co/ produced with Michael Martin Murphey titled “South Canyon 1994” as part of the tribute.
The program will last one hour as is open to the general public. A $2.00 fee is suggested for the evening’s performance located at the Pinecrest Amphitheatre in Pinecrest California.
