Tasting Tuesdays will offer a combination of wine tasting and the usual produce market with a twist. Make your weekly produce shopping a pleasurable tasting experience as you sample the harvest and sip the wine.
Feel free to bring a picnic lunch or dinner to enjoy under the shade of ancient oaks on a rolling green lawn overlooking the gardens and orchards. It’s a great lunchtime or end-of-the day Tuesday outing for couples, families and girlfriend gatherings. Or simply drop by the farm and pick up your produce for the week.

The Metzger family has been farming their beautiful San Andreas estate for 35 years. With over 400 fruit and nut trees and two acres in vegetables, the variety harvested annually is truly amazing. Tomatoes, garlic, peppers, herbs, onions, cucumbers, squash, eggplant, lettuce, peaches, pears, apples, figs, persimmons, pomegranates and grapes are just part of the yield. Randy Metzger will offer mini-workshops during the harvest season. Visit www.metzgerwinesandproduce.com for details. Susan Metzger offers beautiful and lasting dried flower bouquets and the market will feature Randall’s Candles and gift baskets.

The 2012 growing season was absolutely perfect for grapes and is reflected in the rich, full-bodied flavor of the Metzger Barbera and Merlot. Master wine maker, Chuck Hovey has worked his barrel alchemy on the grapes and Randy and Susan are pleased to share the delightful results. Randy explains, “We grow the Barbera grapes here on the farm, and the Merlot grapes come from a neighboring farm I helped to manage.”

Farm tours are available by appointment and have been known to spontaneously happen at the Tuesday market. Randy Metzger would like to share the knowledge with students and would love to collaborate with local schools to facilitate field trips to the farm.

Metzger Farms is located at 1706 Gold Hunter Road in San Andreas. Heading up Mountain Ranch Road from San Andreas, turn left on Gold Hunter Road. You’ll pass the library and wind up into the rolling hills, where you’ll see the Metzger sign to your right. It’s less than a mile from town and there is ample parking.

The June market hours are from 11 am - 7 pm . . . so bring a picnic and enjoy a taste of the early harvest and Metzger wines. From July through October our hours will be 9 am - 7 pm and will feature an increasing abundance of produce. If you’d like to purchase starter plants, please call 209-754-1010 to let them know you’re coming. Bold TextBold TextBold Text
