This is an exciting time in Bear Valley’s history as a destination resort in the Central Sierra. Started in the late 1960’s it rapidly grew a reputation as a popular resort for bay area residents and Hollywood stars. Situated closer than most Tahoe resorts and with less weekend traffic, the mountain offers 1900 feet of vertical, snowmaking, and amazing terrain that supports beginners to experts with easy access to backcountry skiing and riding. For Bay Area and Central Valley residents, Bear Valley is the most affordable major resort with unlimited season pass renewals starting at just $279 and full day tickets for the 2013/14 season were just $64. The Bear Valley Mountain Cooperative plans to keep the resort affordable and accessible to a wide variety of skiers, boarders, and backcountry enthusiasts as well as embark on plans to rejuvenate the resort and local community through a range of investments and improvements to enhance the areas year round recreation and entertainment options.
After planned expansion and improvements were delayed due to regulatory challenges, the resort announced in 2013 it would begin seeking the capital to fund the plans. According to local realtor, Joel Barnett of Bear Valley Real Estate, “Local homeowners and business owners have rallied behind the cooperative concept, which is now a serious contender to take over this amazing resort and mountain village.” He also added, “It is one of the few resort villages offering ski out homes and easy access to abundant year round recreation such as boating, fishing, and biking in a region that is an absolute gem along Ebbetts Pass National Scenic Byway.” http://scenic4.org/
In addition to selling memberships the cooperative is asking for donations to help defray start up and legal costs during the purchase process. Please go the web site to donate today.
