Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Mayhem & Other Charges for Tuolumne County Inmate

Sonora, CA....On 2/5/14 about 9:10 P.M. an on duty male Tuolumne County Deputy Sheriff was preparing to escort the inmate/suspect, 30 year old, Juan Valdez, from the shower area to his cell in the Tuolumne County Jail. Valdez had concealed an inmate manufactured weapon that included a razor blade. Valdez used the weapon to slash the Deputy in the face. The Deputy was transported to Sonora Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries. Immediately following the attack Deputies gained Valdez compliance by use of a Taser. Valdez was not injured...

Valdez is in custody on Kidnapping and Robbery charges stemming from an incident on 10/16/2013 in Jamestown CA. He had recently plead guilty and was awaiting sentencing to State Prison. Valdez has an extensive criminal history dating back to 2004. Valdez is also on AB109 Parole PRCS Community Supervision out of San Joaquin County for an earlier Felony Conviction

Tuolumne County Detectives assumed the investigation into the assault, and the investigation is on going. The case will be forwarded to the Tuolumne County District Attorney’s Office for review of the following charges;

245.3 P.C. Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Custodial Officer Felony
203 P.C. Mayhem Felony
4502(A) P.C. Possession of a Weapon Felony

These reports should be read aloud at schools to show how easy it is to have a life spiral down to where you spend many years locked up, wishing you could have done things differently, worrying you may be targeted by other inmates, hoping someone cares enough to visit, wondering if beauty or sex will be part of your life, waking up and realizing you are still in prison with years to go, and all because you were impatient or too lazy to work and plan a future.

    After a generous plea bargain he will probably be back in your neighborhood in a year or so. Let the DA know what you think of that.

    I think we blame him and his situation , and his kind on a republican minority that has bankrupted this state to the point we can't afford to house our prisoners. Were at a funding level we were at when we were a state of 20mm. Now were 38mm. That issue is the repubs and the repubs alone.

      Really? Give me a break. Because he has "nowhere to go" he decides to slash an officer in the face? That's pretty weak. Best wishes to the officer involved and his family.

        Don't be critical of this poor guy. It is because of republicans that he cut the officer. That makes you a " FOOTHILL RACIST". LMAO.
