This Weeks "Winery of the Week"...Ironstone Vineyards!
Murphys, CA...We are proud to present our Winery of the Week...Ironstone Vineyards. They are located at 1894 Six Mile Road in Murphys, CA. If you have not had a chance to visit them, make sure you plan to in the near future. Their grounds are quite lovely. Ironstone has recently begun to change their focus on their wine program. While many of Ironstone wines originate from the vineyards the Kautz family owns in Lodi, Ironstone wants to highlight the exceptionality of the wines grown in Calaveras County. They are expanding our Reserve program which will feature primarily Sierra Foothill appellation wines with a couple of exceptions. They recently planted an additional 40 acres of new vineyards that will help expand the reserve program. They have a new wine here called Murphys Ridge. This is a single varietal, red wine blend. It will only be sold in Murphys, in their tasting room and only at restaurants. It retails for $24.99...
Winemakers Notes: The aroma is filled with luscious dark cherry fruit layered with currants and berry jam followed with a slight nuance of bay laurel. Its sweet coconut and cedar bouquet whets the appetite for ripe cherry and sweet jammy dark berry fruit flavors. These big, ripe flavors are brought into focus by spicy oak tannins with a medium long finish.
Food Pairings:
This smooth and generously fruit-filled wine is an ideal complement to a plate filled with a variety of aged cheeses with cracked wheat crackers. With your main dish, try it with eggplant lasagna or grilled pork with an herb rub. And for you chocolate lovers, this is the one for that box of decadent dark chocolates you’ve been waiting to dig into.
If you haven’t visited the tasting room recently, we added a reserve tasting bar. There is a nominal fee to taste the reserve wines.
