Big Plans for 2014 at Deborah Marlene's

Mokelumne, CA...As 2013 draws to a close. We all look forward to a fresh start in the New Year. Deborah Marlene’s is doing just that. This month, Deborah will be featuring works that she did “En Plein Air e” in France. I was privileged to travel to France twice with a group of artists from Murphys. These trips were lead by the late Lura Francis.. Lura was Deborah’s teacher for several years. “ I do credit Lura with much of the knowledge that I have in handling and delivering paint and water to the paper....

The new little Gallery in Mokelumne Hill has “Big Plans” for 2014. Since opening on September 28, 2013, Deborah has featured several artists of Calaveras County.

Her Artist Friends thus far have been Ruth Morrow of Arnold, Margaret Roberts of Valley Springs and Ann Nancy Macomber of Dorrington. Deborah has kept on Ruth’ Morrows miniature paintings as a fun part of the gallery for bit. These little pieces of Artistic Creation are fun to look at and they make very affordable as gifts of Art.

New to Deborah’s gallery is Clover Gibbs of Mokelumne Hill. Clover designs bracelets using a pattern of Egyptian Coils. These bracelets are all uniquely one- of- a- kind pieces and they are, priced very affordably. Clover donates 35% of her proceeds to the local Animal rescue efforts.

Locally made soaps by Glenda Glass , a retired Micro Biologist from Ione, have been a big seller. Glenda has many scents, and interesting titles in her line of herbal soaps…, Lavender Gardens , being one of the favorites.

Ingrid Brown of Burson, has been making jewelry that has drawn a lot of attention. Included in her creations are magnetic bracelets that are said to help arthritis symptoms by wearing them on your wrists or ankles.

This New Year will be an interesting one at Deborah Marlene’s, “As I arrange the small areas of the Gallery each month , I try to keep things cohesive and complimentary.” This will stretch my talents as I, too will be working in a more Contemporary style to integrate with some of my upcoming Artist Friends of the Month.

Those of you who have visited have seen that Deborah has done many nature paintings. “I do love the nature that we are privileged to be in and witness each day here in the Mother Lode.” , Deborah says. But Artistic Expression is what all we artists are striving for so I will be trying new styles and subject matter.

For the month of January, Deborah is pleased to showcase the talent of Jan Alcalde of Murphys. Jan began her painting career after retiring as a teacher here in Calaveras County.

In college Jan began taking Photography Courses and “loves its magic”. She has participated in a variety of local and regional shows. With digital photography coming into being, Jan says that she misses the “magic of the darkroom and chemical baths” that were used early on for photo development. She says that she has been slow to transition to the “digital darkroom”. Her subject matter includes photos taken while traveling and on road trips, and really are a “must see”.

Alcalde, has been working with the process of Giclee reproductions of her photos on metal. Some of these pieces will be offered this January at Deborah Marlenes.. This process causes a 3-D look to photos that is very striking.

In addition to artistic photography, Jan does paint in Watercolor,” dabbling”…as she calls it. Jan’s style is precise, she says it may be inherent from her mechanical Father. She loves the qualities of watercolor and its fluid looseness and relaxed freshness that she experiences when painting with it..

Jan is a member of the Arts of Bear Valley and the Golden Palette and says that being a member of these groups keeps her inspired. Both of these Calaveras County groups are very welcoming and in need of new members so if you need “Artistic Inspiration” either group would be good to join

A Meet the Artist reception for Jan Alcalde,,will be held for Jan at Deborah Marlene’s on Sunday, January 19, 2014, from 1PM to 4PM..the public is invited and we hope to see many people here sharing this unique experience of the Arts.

Deborah has been asked by quite a few patrons if she teaches watercolor…so many, in fat that she has decided to start offering one or two person classes in her Gallery. These classes are scheduled for Mondays. Two class times will be offered on Mondays. The first will be 10:30AM to 12:30PM. Send class from 1:00PM to 3:00PM.

Deborah will be covering the very basics of Watercolor and once the weather is better will exploring landscapes , and flora of Mokelumne Hill.

There is a deposit of $50.00 , which is due at the time of signing up. This deposit will be credited to the first months lessons.

The fees are $35.00 for two students per session, and $50.00 for a private lesson. Deborah has a supply list made which must be purchased by the student. Watercolor paper will be available for purchase at the gallery for $7.00 per sheet. A single page will be enough for 4 projects, unless the person gets the “bug” and wants to take off on their own.

Those interested in lessons may contact Deborah directly at her gallery at 8242 Main Street in Mokelumne Hill or call 209 753-8507 during business hours . Deborah Marlenes is open from Thursday through Mondays from 10:AM to 5PM with a closing time of 4PM on Sundays.
