Murphys Concert Jan. 19 Features Guitarist Gambetta

Murphys, Ca -- The first in the 2014 series of music events at the historic First Congregational Church will feature internationally renowned acoustical guitar player and singer/songwriter Beppe Gambetta -- an expert on American traditional music -- on Jan. 19. Gambetta, a native of Genoa, Italy, travels the United States every year to play roots and bluegrass festivals. He is considered one of the finest guitar flat pickers today and an expert on American traditional music encompassing bluegrass to folk music...

He is coming through Murphys as he travels the West Coast doing a series of appearances and to promote his newest CD “The American Album.” He has also written instruction books on the flat picking style of playing.

The local concert will begin at 3 p.m. and will be held in the sanctuary of the church, a community center since it was founded in the Gold Rush days. A donation of $15 for the performer will be collected at the door.
The concert series offers a free venue to musicians, both local and beyond, as an outreach to the region. Concerts last year included Celtic, jazz, the Sonora Masterworks Chorale and a classical trio from the Bear Valley Music Festival.
Gambetta has appeared on stages all over the U.S. and Europe, and has played with the David Grisman Bluegrass Experience band, on public radio, and was a co-host of a European tribute to the late Doc Watson, perhaps the most famous traditional singer/guitarist in the last 40 years. Samples of Gambetta’s playing can be found at his web site at www.beppegambetta.com.
His latest album includes all traditional American music including “Red Mountain Wine,” “Handsome Molly,” “Nashville Blues,” a “Delmore Brothers Medley” and his version of “You Are My Sunshine.”

People with questions about the performance Jan. 19, or future concerts, can contact the church office at 209-728-3141 or Sanders LaMont at 209-890-3172.
