Join Murphys Covenent Church On Christmas Eve

Our Mission
A mission statement attempts to articulate why an organization exists. We believe that God's called us as a church and as disciples of Jesus Christ to love God, love one another, and serve the world.

Our mission gets carried out in a variety of ways. Here's just one glimpse at what it looks like with us and the five other Covenant churches in Calaveras County...

The Evangelical Covenant Church
As members of the Evangelical Covenant Church...we profess personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We affirm the Bible as the authoritative Word of God and the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct. Membership is open to all believers. Uniformity in all creedal details is not required....instead we believe that in the essentials of the faith there should be unity....but in all there must be love.

Murphys Covenant Church is part of the Pacific Southwest Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church. You can visit the conference website at http://www.pswc.org/

Our History
The first meeting was held in the home of two of our original charter members on October 19, 1950. On February 4, 1951 (our church anniversary) they started meeting in the Scout Hut in Murphys. There were seventeen charter members and the original name Sierra Covenant Church was chosen. A little over two years later on April 24, 1953 Sierra Covenant Church was admitted into the Evangelical Covenant Church at the Annual Meeting in Oakland, California. Our first full-time pastor was hired in October of 1954.

The lot our facility is on was purchased in 1952, the cornerstone was laid in 1953, the building was dedicated on March 17, 1957 with the first service in the newly finished sanctuary held in December of 1957. In the early stages of church construction, a house was purchased for a parsonage and relocated to its present location next door to the church. In mid-1995 the church name was changed to "Sierra Bible Church". In February 2011 we celebrated our 60th anniversary!

More recently, on Sunday, April 7, 2013 the congregation of Sierra Bible Church of Murphys voted unanimously to change their name to Murphys Covenant Church. The name Murphys Covenant Church effectively identifies what we are (a church), who we are (Covenant), and where we are (Murphys). Ultimately it gives us an identity that aligns with our vision to be a church growing deeper in Christ and making a difference in our community through faith, hope, and love.
