Mike Butow & Debbie Peterson Are Dancing For Much More Than Just Their Score.

San Andreas, CA...We had the pleasure recently to speak with Mike Butow & Debbie Peterson who are competing in tomorrow night's Dancing With The Sierra Stars. The brother sister duo is competing in honor of their father who passed away earlier this year after a long battle with cancer. Training for the show has also been an opportunity for Debbie to participate in a pilot of the Optifast program that is now available from Mark Twain Medical Center. She has lost over 45lbs in the last few months and looks and feels fantastic. So when you watch the competition tomorrow night remember that not only is the competition a great fundraiser it is also a vehicle where the contestants can take their lives to new levels as well...

Both are employees of Mark Twain Medical Center and Debbie is the Director of Oncology Services at the Mark Twain Cancer Center. The take away for us is that if you are a patient of MTMC in many cases you are cared for by people where your fight against cancer or other ailments is personal to them. They have been affected personally by many of the same challenges as those they are caring for. For them the understanding of what you are going through goes well beyond theoretical and professional. Improving your life helps them improve theirs as well.

Make sure you head to Ironstone Tommorrow night and donate for a great fundraiser for Mark Twain Medical Center Foundation and the new Angels Camp Family Medical Center.

Below is their bio from the Dancing With The Sierra Stars Website
Debbie Peterson

Mike and Debbie are the first brother and sister team to ever dance at this event. They are having a great time and she is so thankful that Mike is back in Sonora to dance with her.

Debbie Peterson joined Mark Twain Medical Center in the fall of 2012 as the Director of Oncology Services for the new Cancer Center. "Our Center has a great team and I am both proud and honored to be a part of it," says Debbie. She has been in the oncology field since 1989 and is most proud of this particular center. "I feel so fortunate to work with such an outstanding oncologist as Rob D'Acquisto and our incredible team."

Married 29 years, Debbie and her husband Chris have raised three wonderful daughters and are still very much in love. Debbie joined her local charter of Soroptimist International to further her advocacy for providing medical services to those who live in Calaveras County. She is thrilled that the Administration Team at MTMC is very committed to this project and is excited to be participating in its realization.
Michael Butow

Michael Butow is a born entertainer. For the last 20 years he has dedicated his life to art and music. A multi-instrumentalist, Butow also writes, composes, and has performed throughout the west coast. At 36 years old, he believes the best is yet to come.

"Music has been like a religion to me. It guides me through tough times and gives voice to my frustrations and triumphs alike. Growing up in Sonora, I had a lot of stories to tell," say Mike.

After 18 years, Michael recently returned to his childhood home town of Sonora, to be his father's caregiver as he battled cancer. His dad finally succumbed to the illness on June 4th of this year. "He was the toughest person I've ever known. He definitely went out on his own terms after fighting the disease for 7 years."

Now Michael has a new passion . . . dancing! Approached by his sister Debbie to perform in Dancing with The Sierra Stars, Michael agreed, "My sister and I have a great time doing this. We laugh throughout most of our practice time, but always seem to get more done that way. We have a very special bond and I really cherish this process."
