Jennifer Morris Sworn In as Fiddletown Postmaster

Fiddletown, CA...On Wednesday, October 16, 2013, Jennifer Morris ollowed a proud tradition dating back to 1851 when the post office was first established. In a 12 noon ceremony, Morris will raised her right hand to take the official oath of office as Postmaster at the Fiddletown Post Office, 14283 Jibboom Street, Fiddletown, CA 95629. Manager of Post Office Operations Theresa Hartenstein will administer the oath of office.

Morris started her postal career as a Postmaster Relief in Rail Road Flat in 2009. She subsequently served as the officer-in-charge there and as Postmaster Relief of the Glencoe Post Office prior to her selection as the Fiddletown Postmaster.

“Being a Postmaster allows me to establish the postal brand, not only to Fiddletown customers, but to the many visitors to the area,” said Morris. “Our brand is built on honesty, integrity and loyalty, and it should be as evident as the flag that flies outside the Post Office.”

Morris, 49, and her husband, Mike, have two daughters, Jessica and Jeanette, and four grandchildren. She enjoys vacationing, swimming, camping and drag racing. They reside in Rail Road Flat.

As Fiddletown Postmaster, Morris oversees four employees who process and deliver a daily mail volume of more than 3,000 pieces to 250 Post Office boxes and 301 rural delivery points.

The post office was established in 1851 and the town was given the name "Fiddletown". In 1878 the name of the town was changed to "Oleta", and in 1932 the town's population of 65 people voted to restore the name of the town to Fiddletown.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation: 152 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. With more than 31,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, usps.com, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $65 billion and delivers nearly 40 percent of the world's mail. If it were a private-sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 42nd in the 2012 Fortune 500. The Postal Service has been named the Most Trusted Government Agency for seven years and the fourth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute.
