Black Cat-A-Thon Ends September 30th!
San Andreas, CA...Have you ever had an opportunity to observe the sleek and graceful black panther as they appear in wildlife films or possibly at the zoo? While it is certainly not realistic, not to mention illegal to house one of these magnificent creatures, would you consider adopting a "parlor panther"?
The parlor panther was bred in 1958 in Louisville, Kentucky, when Nikki Horner of Shawnee Cattery deliberately bred an American Shorthair with a Burmese for the purpose of creating a domesticated cat that resembled a "miniature black panther". If you research this breed of feline you will find that this sleek and muscular cat is intelligent, very social and enjoys being in the company of people. They tend to be attached to their families and crave attention, and for this reason they are highly suitable for children and adults alike. Some have even been known to fetch an object and return it to their owner when the mood strikes them. It is very unfortunate that these felines who tend to make wonderful companions are also commonly the last to be adopted based upon the pigment of their fur.
Animal Services and the Calaveras Humane Society has dedicated the month of September to the adoption of all black cats including those who are at least 75% black at a reduced donation/adoption rate. This reduced rate also includes black & white/tuxedos and tortoiseshell’s. People interested in adopting any feline meeting these criteria may do so at either one of the two Calaveras Humane Society adoption centers located in Angels Camp or Arnold, or at the County Animal Services Department in San Andreas.
If adopting from the Humane Society, you will only pay $25.00. This is half the normal price and includes; spay/neuter, FLEV/FIVB tested, litter trained and current vaccinations. Some are also micro-chipped.
If adopting from the Animal Shelter, you will only pay $20.00. This includes; spay/neuter, FLEV/FIVB tested, litter trained, current vaccinations, and micro-chipping.
Be sure to visit either the Calaveras Humane Society or Animal Shelter before the end of the month!
