The Center for Creativity & Community Announces Fall Schedule of Workshops, Events and Classes
San Andreas, CA...The mission statement of The Center for Creativity & Community is: To provide a gathering place in Calaveras County for people of all ages to explore their unique creativity, regardless of their ability to pay. The following workshops, classes and events are offered to everyone. As you will notice, some are absolutely FREE, while others have a modest fee. If you wish to participate and are unable to pay the full price, or anything at all, please give us a call and let us know. It is our desire to help. Of course, if you have the ability to pay, your support of our programs through your registration fee, is essential to our success as a non-profit in your community...
ArtsBash at Thorn Mansion with Blame Sally is coming up on Saturday, October 12. Tickets are still available at $35 each. The gates open at 12 noon and the event goes until 5:00 pm. There will be a BBQ lunch, silent auction, interactive totem art project, Manzanita Writer’s Press book signing, mansion tours, no-host bar and the wonderful folk-rock music of Blame Sally. Proceeds go toward programs, services and operations at the center. Thorn Mansion is being resored to the 1860s version by Rurik and Marjorie Kallis. Here’s your opportunity to work with this talented artist who will introduce you to the basics and lead you through your own creative process to a finished work of art.
Teen Art and Self Discovery with Sharon Armstrong
Thursdays August 29 through October 10 • 4:00 - 5:30 pm • FREE
This workshop has been ongoing for two years and partners with Behavioral Health. Between sessions we offer a drop-in, Teen Open Studio on Thursdays at the same time.
Women’s Focus Group with Ruth Nichols
8 Sessions on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm starting September 25 - November 6 • FREE
Artists Studio Tour presented by Calaveras County Arts Council

Yoga with Katie Aguirre
Tuesdays, every other week - October 1, 15, 29 • 3:30 - 4:30 pm • $10 per session
This is a gentle class designed to offer a workout for all with an emphasis on releasing
tension. Katie is a wonderful teacher, always loved by all. She also teaches at NY Fitness
in Jackson. Class size is limited, so please call 209-498-2085
Sketching Outdoors with Libby Fife
4 Sessions, Thursdays, October 17 through November 7, 10:00 are - 12:00 noon
$10 per session, $35 for the series
Libby is an accomplished artist and teacher. This class will be a journaling experience, exploring sketching, color theory and basic design. This series will culminate in a field trip (November 2) and an exhibit at the center.
Cartooning with Deanna Furtney
6 Sessions on Saturdays, October 5 - November 23 • 11:00 am - noon • $25
Deanna is the center’s very own “Garden Goddess”. Together with industrious, volunteers she has created the many Zen garden spaces at the center. She is also a fabulous artist and is one of our most generous and dedicated supporters. She can be found at the center on most Friday mornings.

Sheri offers a super fun experience creating unique gifts or wearable art items using found
objects and various interesting materials. She is known for art cards, scarves & boas.

Outside by the veggie garden • 5:30 Donations to the center are greatly appreciated.
We have a small sound system, so bring instruments, voice and short performance art.

An Introduction to Form and Meter in Poetry Workshop with Scott Weiss
Scott is a fiction and poetry writer and works as a substitute teacher throughout Calaveras County. He is the Publicist for Manzanita Writers Press. This workshop will take place in late November or December 2014.
Sharon Armstrong will be giving a Mask-Making Workshop on Saturday & Sunday,
January 25 & 26. So save the dates and be sure to sign up early . . . these are quite popular. The cost is $35
The Center for Creativity & Community is located at 23 West St. Charles St. (Hwy. 49) in San Andreas. 209-203-4085 Hours are Monday – Thursday from 10 am – 4 pm and
Fridays 10 am – 2 pm. We are open on the weekends and some evenings for events according to our seasonal schedule. We would love to speak with artists interested in teaching at the center for upcoming classes and workshops. If a class is offered over multiple dates, if space permits, you can start up later than the first session.
