Applications available for Rotary summer exchange program
Calaveras & Tuolumne Counties...Applications are available for the Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program taking place this summer in Germany, England, Italy, Spain and Brazil. High school students interested in traveling abroad are encouraged to apply early for the country of their choice. Applications are due Feb. 28 with applications for exchanges to Germany and Brazil due April 15...
To qualify, students must be 15 to19 years old and live or attend school in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Calaveras, Mariposa, Madera, Southern Sacramento, or Tuolumne counties. Students do not have to have a family member in Rotary to be selected. The program is open to all high school students.
Host families provide basic food and lodging. Students are responsible for airfare, medical insurance, spending money and any fees, which vary depending on the country.
Youth exchanges have some flexibility on dates. However, the exchange to Germany is set for June 29 to July 20 and is more structured as American students are placed with German host families and group activities are scheduled. Then German students will travel to the U.S. with retuning American students for a three-week California exchange. Host families for German students visiting California are needed.

The exchange program is sponsored by Rotary District 5220, which includes more than 2,300 members throughout the Central Valley. The RYE program with these countries has been taking place successfully for over thirty years.
