Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital changes its name to Mark Twain Medical Center
San Andreas, CA....Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital (MTSJH) Hospital President Craig Marks announced that MTSJH has changed its name to Mark Twain Medical Center (MTMC). “After my arrival at MTSJH in May,” stated Marks, “we began to reexamine our Mission, Vision, and Values. As we progressed in this dialogue, it became very clear that MTSJH is much more than just a hospital. We need to be the center of healthcare for the residents and visitors to Calaveras County. This does not mean we will meet every healthcare need, but for those services we don’t provide we have partners throughout the Dignity Health System that can. In addition, there are many services that we have not provided in the past that we can and should provide local. For example, on January 7, we are opening a cancer center, complete with chemotherapy infusion center, and PET/CT scanner to meet the medical oncology needs of local residents.
“Since 1987, your community hospital has existed under the name Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital, continued Marks, adding “In 2012, Catholic Healthcare West changed its name to Dignity Health; of which we are a member of. Today, our name changes to Mark Twain Medical Center. A member of Dignity Health.”
The result of our planning process was the development of a new Mission and Vision for Mark Twain
Medical Center. Our Vision is to improve the health of our greater community by providing quality health care services, exceeding the expectations of those we serve. Our new vision to become one of the top 100 Critical Access Hospitals in the country through the achievement of our Pillars of Excellence; Patient Loyalty, Quality, Services, Financial Stewardship, Employee and Medical Staff Development. Patient Mark Twain Medical Center will continue to provide outstanding customer service, aspiring to treat those we serve the way they want to be treated.
“Together with our excellent Medical Staff, Mark Twain Medical Center will continue to respond to the concerns and needs of our community in a timely manner, pursue initiatives in collaboration with our Medical Staff and ensure the availability of the appropriate complement of providers for those we serve.” stated Dr. Griffin, Corporate Board Chair, and Chief of the Medical Staff.
“We are currently we in the process of developing new and enhanced facilities, technology and services to meet the needs of those we serve,” said Marks, “We are dedicated to creating and maintaining a system of continuous improvement, which is incorporated into the daily work of every employee and Medical Staff member.”
As a member of Dignity Health, we are able to continue to strengthen our financial stewardship, which enhances our ability to develop new services, obtain needed technology, modernize our facilities, recruit physicians and ultimately ensure long-term viability. For services not available at MTMC, our network in the Greater Stockton/Sacramento Service area provide access to specialty and higher levels of care when time and service matter the most. MTMC and Dignity Health strive to exceed your healthcare expectations.
