The Old Gulch Fire, over 19,000 acres started from a car with hot exhaust pulling over to the side of the road.

Living near the fire, and seeing the 2 air tankers, and the Cal Fire trucks ,I was concerned.

I have talked to many Cal Fire fire fighters. As this fire started by the road,it is more likely vehicle ignition started the fire, not a tossed cigarette ,or ash. There is grass alongside the road, for 2 years the county sprayed the roadsides, this year no.Even with spraying, there is enough fuel to start a fire with the tinder conditions and hot exhaust pipes,or a failing exhaust system in a vehicle.

We were fortunate, living on Northwood drive, to have CDF save our house in '92. We saw many of our neihbors loose their homes, and suffer. Still am very greatful to all the fire fieghters.

I just realized that was 20 years ago, and wasn't it in August too?

It's a little known fact. In this guy's mind every vegetation fire is caused by a lit cigarette.

Last year there were over 48,000 wildland fires in the US. 900 of them were caused by smoking.

      Toss a cigarette,
      pay a price

Cigarette butts tossed from vehicles cause most roadside fires. Think about it: a lit butt rolling into dry grass can’t help but start a fire -- and it could be a deadly one.

California law forbids tossing out anything on fire. If it’s careless, it’s a misdemeanor. If it’s intentional, you’ll end up in prison.

Either way, you are ALSO legally liable to pay the huge costs of fighting the fire.

      Think.
      Be smart.
      Use your ashtray.

Alright if he agrees to lay off the cigarette smokers for starting fires lay off about him posting so much...Cigar, pipe smokers and pot smokers are fair game though.
