Creating Paintings with Paper... An exploration of layering in life and on paper

Sutter Creek, CA...The Fine Eye Gallery is pleased to present Mandalas – Paintings with Paper by collage artist, Douglas DeVivo. Please join us on September 1st for Art Trek from 1-7pm and during the month of September to experience the depth and surprise of these extraordinary works of art....

Douglas DeVivo, an award winning artist and native of California has exhibited his work from the bay area all the way to Taipei, China. Trained as a designer but a spirited artist at heart, Douglas weaves together layer upon lacy layer of personal history, found materials and old, illustrated technology to create intricate, pictorial worlds for us to explore. Each of the collages in his new series, Mandalas, is a universe unto itself – a place where the viewer can visually peel away layers revealing new and ever-changing stories and perspectives. DeVivo says, “My collages are intended to hit people on different levels causing you to be drawn in, engaged, constantly surprised and never able to see it all.” Like the ancient symbols for which they are named, these collages are a metaphor for the complex levels of conscious and unconscious within each of us.

In concert with DeVivo’s collages, the Fine Eye will also feature the stately vessels of Fresno potter, Craig Easter. His work, which he creates from locally sourced clay and wood ash, is an expression of the colors and textures of exposed earth in the rugged Sierras and the giant San Joaquin Valley.
