The Altaville Schoolhouse – A History of Learning, Thursday, August 2, 2012
Angels Camp, CA...The Angels Camp Museum will present as part of their lecture series a special lecture on the history of the Altaville School House at the school house site. The Altaville School House is believed to be the oldest surviving school house in California. The Altaville one room school house was built in 1858 and is a California Historical Landmark and listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Our guest speaker will be Kathy Northington. Kathy was elected as Calaveras County Superintendent in June 2010 and began in January 2011. Kathy has been in education for 36 years, all of which have been in Calaveras County. We will also have some local residents who once attended school in this historic building and will talk about their memories of the Altaville School House. This will be a unique opportunity to go inside this historic structure and learn of its history, or if you attended this school, to relive old memories....
The school house was in continuous use from 1858 to 1950 and has since been carefully restored.
Located on Highway 49, near the intersection of Highway 4.
TICKETS:
Tickets are available the night of the lecture at the Altaville School House. Museum members are
admitted free. Complimentary refreshments will be available on site beginning at 6:30 PM.
ALL PROCEEDS GO TO THE ANGELS CAMP MUSEUM FOUNDATION TO AID THE MUSEUM
