Pinecrest Day Use Area Improvement Work Starting This Fall

Sonora, CA…Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor, Susan Skalski, announced that construction for improvements to the restrooms, amphitheater and associated infrastructure of the popular Pinecrest Day Use Area is scheduled to begin this fall. The contract for construction is expected to be awarded soon with construction beginning in October; depending on how early the snow begins to fall this year...

The day use and parking improvements are anticipated to take three to five years to complete. Construction activities are planned to occur September through May each year in order to avoid the busy summer recreation season. Construction within the Pinecrest Day Use Area will occur between 2012 and 2016. Additionally, future improvement activities are planned for all the developed recreation facilities in the Pinecrest Recreation Area.

The Forest Service and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) are working together to upgrade Pinecrest Lake’s facilities and infrastructure to enhance recreation, meet American’s with Disability Act accessibility requirements and improve traffic and parking conditions. The modernization of public restrooms and the facilities for disabled visitors will improve barrier-free access to recreation resources, and protect natural resources through minimizing water use and resource consumption.

The Pinecrest Recreation Area is located at Pinecrest Lake, within the Stanislaus National Forest. The area is located 30 miles east of Sonora, California and within a day trip driving distance of the Central Valley and the Bay Area, allowing for a single day outing adventure. The Pinecrest Recreation Area includes recreation facilities at the Pinecrest Day Use Area, Pinecrest National Recreation Trail, Pinecrest Campground, Meadowview Campground, and Pioneer Trail Group Campground.

For more information on the planned improvements, keep up with construction timelines and to sign up for email updates, the public is encouraged to visit: www.pinecrestlakeupdate.com.

This website is provided by the PG&E to help inform people of upcoming improvements to the Pinecrest Recreation Area.
