Senator Gaines Votes Against Democratic Budget Plan
SACRAMENTO – Senator Ted Gaines (R-Rocklin) today issued the following statement regarding the Democrats’ majority-vote budget package: “This budget is not balanced, not honest and not what the people of California deserve from their government. It is a phony, gimmicky document that does nothing to address the chronic, structural overspending that plagues our state and I could not support it.”...
“Even worse, it assumes that taxpayers want to pay $8 billion in additional sales and income tax next year. Tax increases lost in every county in the state in 2009. The tobacco tax is losing. It is pure fantasy to think that voters want to balance the budget with higher taxes.”
“This is a Democrat budget that puts special interests on a pedestal. They did not even bother to adopt the modest spending reforms put forward by their own Governor and continue to spend like the California economy is booming.”
“We need to enact serious, long-term solutions that will not only prevent future financial meltdowns, but will encourage job creation and allow California’s economy to recover.”
Senator Ted Gaines represents the 1st Senate District, which includes all or parts of Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Lassen, Modoc, Mono, Nevada, Placer, Plumas, Sacramento and Sierra counties.

Close the libraries. Close the schools. Quit fixing the roads. Cut back on police and fire protection.
Just think what we could do with the money we'd save!

Excuse me. Would I be out of line to suggest that the state government cut waste, fraud and corruption so there would be plenty of revenue for public safety and infrastructure without a budget crisis?

I don't think you'd be out of line at all to suggest that it is possible to completely eliminate those inevitable byproducts of government, or that we haven't made an effort to do so, or that we'd have "plenty of revenue" if we could pull off that miracle.
I just think you'd be wrong.

Not Really News

It is not news when a GOP soldier votes against anything the Governor proposes, whether good or bad. Merit has nothing to do with the vote.
It is dishonest to claim this is a sincere effort to do anything other than win re-election over and over and continue to get rich at the public's expense.
