First First Friday in the Park will be Second Friday in June!

Murphys, CA..To kick off this year’s season of First Fridays in the Park neighborhood gatherings, the sponsoring Murphys Community Club has decided to fudge a little by staging the June event on the second Friday of the month, June 8, to avoid a conflict with the graduation ceremony at Bret Harte High School....

“We thought about changing the name of the series, but First Fridays have become so popular in the Murphys area that we figured our audience would be able to adjust to this slight deviation,” states MCC president Charlie Creighton. “With many of our families involved with Bret Harte we didn’t want to compete with its year-end celebration.”

From June to September, First Friday in the Park will feature a performance by a local musical group playing in the iconic gazebo starting at 5:30 p.m. From 5 p.m., a special dinner will be available for purchase at $8.00 per person and a featured local wine will be on sale along with other beverages. Friends and neighbors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy a small town America happening in the cool confines of Murphys Community Park.

There is no admission charge and ample free parking is available nearby. Free-will donations to help maintain the park will not be discouraged.
The June 8 event will spotlight Dyemusica, a rock, reggae, jam band that incorporates different tonal styles and personalities with thought provoking lyrics and experimental overtones to achieve its unique sound. The evening meal will be prepared by Jenny’s Kitchen and will consist of turkey burgers with grilled pineapple and mango mayonnaise. The featured wine will be from Tanner Vineyards.

On July 6, the band will be Tour Guides. Formed in 2007, they play dance music that crosses over many genres and generations, featuring the lively vocal artistry of Jessica Mouser. Lila & Sage will be catering the dinner and will offer BBQ’d Italian sausage on a fresh homemade roll with grilled onions and red peppers. Hatcher Winery will be the featured vintner.
The August 3 First Friday crowd will be entertained by Jim Bailey and his Plan B band. A local favorite they tailor their music to fit the audience with an emphasis on rock hits from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Sierra Hills Market will be providing the food and will give diners a choice of BBQ marinated chicken breast or skirt steak. Metate Hill wine will be available for purchase.

The concluding First Friday will be on September 7 with Swing Gitane providing the music. They call their style acoustic swing from another era and include gypsy music as well as American, Latin and cowboy jazz. Alchemy Restaurant will be serving their signature Thai-style chopped chicken salad. Lavender Ridge will be the evening’s featured winery.

Murphys Community Park is located on Algiers St. in historic downtown Murphys. Membership in the Murphys Community Club is open to everyone and contributions are tax deductible. For further information, go to the web site www.visitmurphys.com/community_club.html or call 728-8183.
