Local Boy Scout Builds Monument at Ebbetts Pass Veterans Community Hall
Murphys, CA...Brandon Marshall is a fine example of what young people are capable of if they choose to be. He is a positive, respectful, trustworthy, and empathetic individual who is very close to receiving his Eagle Scouting Award, the highest rank possible in the Boy Scouts of American program. One of the final requirements for such a commendable accomplishment to carryout a community service / leadership project. For his project, Brandon chose to build a monument at the Ebbetts Pass Veterans Memorial District's Community Hall, otherwise known as the Lion's or Scout Hut on School Street in Murphys. He wanted to do something to thank the past and currently military service people for there dedication to our country.....
Story & Photos By Debbie Rocco
Brandon stated, "I wanted to do this for my grandfather, too, because he is an Army veteran. I have great respect for the military and felt this monument was a great opportunity to show my respect for both him and all of the veterans, and the military that is still serving."
Ironically, Brandon completed his project and raised his flag for the very first time on May 1. May is military appreciation month. Assisting him was his grandpa Dean and EPVMD Board members, Jim Carlon, Lew Monell, Dick Elliott and Al Napier. Also standing proudly beside him as he proudly hoisted Old Glory was his Nana Sharon and parents Greg and Denise Marshall. Younger sister Madeline, the rest of his family, and some of his scouting brothers and leaders, beamed in the background as well. Brandon showed sincere emotion and pride as he then invited his supportive guests to join him in the Pledge of Allegiance.
