Celebrate the Mokelumne on a special raft trip on Saturday, May 26
Angels Camp, CA....On Saturday, May 26, river-lovers can celebrate the latest win for the Mokelumne River by taking a special raft trip with O.A.R.S. of Angels Camp. Three trips that day on the Mokelumne’s six-mile Electra-Middle Bar run will benefit the Foothill Conservancy’s continuing work to protect and restore the river....
This is a wonderful opportunity to float the Mokelumne and experience its beauty from river level with knowledgeable guides and professional equipment. Rafters will see the section of river recently granted a reprieve from East Bay MUD’s proposed expansion of Pardee Reservoir, which the utility officially
dropped from its long-range water plans on April 24.
The trip is a fun journey through Class II-III whitewater suitable for families and seniors. No prior rafting experience is required. Participants will enjoy the scenery as well as fun, splashy rapids: the Chute, STurn, and Devil’s Toilet Bowl. West of the Highway 49 bridge, rafters may see ducks, geese, swallows
and other wildllife along the river. The entire trip, including transportation to and from the site, usually takes less than four hours.
Cost is $70 per person and space is limited. Advance reservations are required.
The trip is suitable for rafters from age 6 up. Rafters under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. If the river flows are too high, O.A.R.S. may need to restrict the trips to older youth and adults.
The raft trips will be guided and equipped by O.A.R.S. of Angels Camp, one of the finest whitewater rafting companies in the world. They have fun, knowledgeable guides and well-equipped and maintained rafts.
Foothill Conservancy of Pine Grove is the leading conservation group involved in the protection and restoration of the upper Mokelumne River. Most recently, it led the successful fight to stop a new, higher Pardee Dam and the resulting expansion of Pardee Reservoir. The Conservancy is seeking permanent protection of the Mokelumne through National Wild and Scenic River designation.
To reserve your spot, call Randy at Foothill Conservancy, 209-295-4900 or e-mail him at randy@foothillconservancy.org.
