George Runner Releases Assessment Practices Report for Calaveras County
Sacramento – George Runner, Second District Member of the California State Board of Equalization (BOE), today released a BOE report finding that most properties in Calaveras County are properly assessed. The Calaveras County Assessment Practices Survey Report examined the quality of the 2009-10 Calaveras County assessment roll, representing about $6.9 billion in value, and found that it meets state standards. The BOE report also makes seven recommendations for improving the Calaveras County Assessor's programs. ...

Surveying county assessors’ practices fulfills the BOE’s mission of promoting statewide consistency in property tax assessment. Every five years the BOE reviews each county's property assessment practices and procedures and publishes a report.
These reports provide an overview of how well the assessor's duties are performed and identify where improvements should be made. Every assessor is required to identify and assess all properties located within the county – unless specifically exempt – and maintain a database or "roll" of the properties and their assessed values.
