Trudy Lackey Elected Chair of Mind Matters Board of Directors
Murphys, CA...Trudy Lackey, who has been on the board of directors of the Murphys based Mind Matters clinic since 2009, has been elected its Chairperson for the coming year. She succeeds Mark Wilson who held the position for several years. Lackey has long been active in Calaveras County having been elected four times to the Vallecito Union School District, serving as President for four years. Her other involvements include being a member of the board of the county’s Women’s Network and one-time Executive Director of the Calaveras Community Foundation....
Mind Matters is a non-profit treatment center devoted to addressing the many needs of patients and families affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Learning Disabilities.
“This is a very exciting time at Mind Matters,” states Lackey. “Each year we become better known for our unique approach to dealing with autism related disorders and are thus able to be of service to an increasing number of families in Amador, Calaveras, and Tuolumne counties.”
The clinic recently staged two very successful events as part of National Autism Awareness Month. On April 14 it held its first annual Off the Beaten Path – Walk/Run for Autism Awareness. There were 189 participants, a remarkable number for a first time event, and raised over $2,900. The following week was the premiere performance of “The Autism Chronicles,” written by Mark Wilson and directed by his wife Terri. It drew a large and enthusiastic crowd to the Bret Harte Performing Arts Center in Angels Camp and received many suggestions that it be performed elsewhere in the tri-county area.
Joining Lackey as officers of the board will be Vice-Chairperson Janet Orvis-Cook, Secretary Jan Alcalde, and Treasurer Jerry Lucas.
There is also a new member of the board, Mona Kayton, who recently retired as a Special Education teacher with the Vallecito Union School District, having taught for more than 32 years. In 2009 she was named Teacher of the Year.
“We have a great team, and a great cause,” says Lackey. “I look forward to being part of our continuing success.”
Mind Matters is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and donations to help it extend its services are always welcomed.
