20 Year Old Sonora Resident Loses Life in Parrotts Ferry Road Accident...Updated

Vallecito, CA...A 20 year old Sonora man, Michael Ray Rogers, so sadly lost his life in last evening's fatal accident on Parrotts Ferry Road. Yesterday at approximately 5:24pm, San Andreas Area CHP Officers were dispatched to a traffic collision with an ambulance responding. While responding to the collision scene, Officers were advised that the collision involved two vehicle that were blocking the roadway on Parrotts Ferry Road. Additionally, one party was pinned inside of an involved vehicle and two air ambulances were requested by Fire Department personnel on scene. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 21 year old Angels Camp man was driving his Honda Civic southbound on Parrotts Ferry Road, when he lost control of his vehicle while negotiating through a curved portion of the roadway. The Honda continued southbound, drove up a dirt embankment west of the roadway, travel back down onto the roadway and across the solid double yellow lines. At this time a 46 year old Murphys woman was driving her 2000 F-350 pickup northbound on Parrotts Ferry Road. As she approached the same curved section of the roadway the Honda careened out of control directly into the path of her vehicle. The pickup truck and sedan collided in a near head on fashion...

The collision sent the pickup truck spinning towards the east roadway edge, where it eventually came to rest. The driver sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Sonora Community Hospital. The sedan came to rest in the middle of the roadway blocking the lanes.

As a result of the collision, the driver sustained major injuries, and was transported by air ambulance to Doctors Hospital in Modesto. Passenger Phillips sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. The right rear passenger sustained major injuries. He was transported to Oak Valley Community Hospital in Oakdale where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officers from the San Andreas Area CHP along with members of the Murphys Fire Department, Altaville/Melones Fire Department, California State Parks, American Legion Ambulance, and Reach Air Ambulance. CHP Helicopter H20 provided assistance from above.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation and at this time alcohol is not believed to have been a contributing factor to the collision. The identity of the right rear passenger will be disclosed pending Coroner notification. Officer Maples will be handling the investigation to it's conclusion....

From all of us at ThePineTree.net our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in this accident..

Traffic Accident on Parrott's Ferry Road
Posted on: 2012-04-27 12:31:06   By: Anonymous

Wow! I was at the scene yesterday prior to any professional responders. I was so moved at the help that was being given to the people involved by others who happened upon the scene....there were some experienced at aiding victims of auto accidents and others who could move auto parts off the roadway and others who could make cell calls to loved ones and in all of it, there seemed to be none who were in the way or being a nuisance in the process of helping to save lives. There will be shock for the surviviors to live through and pain for others. I thank God that He allows those who can help to help and the rest to be available when something they can do arisies. They were just kids....I'm so sorry any of them had to die....

Thoughts and prayers to the involved families. I would imagine it takes time to find family to notify, not to mention they probably wanted to be sure the correct family was being notified seeing how there were three young men, all about the same age, in one car.

My daughter, Ria Rice-Lawson, was Mike's girlfriend. She called me as soon as she found out about the crash. I was at a parent/teen group meeting and left right away. I picked Ria up and we drove to Doctor's in Modesto, thinking Mike was there. Ria told me that she had tried to reach Mike's Mom at her home number, but couldn't get a hold of her. I happened to have Tabitha's cell phone # and called her. We were so worried and shaken up and still thought Mike was alive, although we couldn't find him after calling many valley hospitals. I called Calaveras CHP and found out they didn't have Mike's Mom's cell #...that is why it took so long for her to find out. We found out about the same time in front of the hospital, around 9:00. We were just crushed with the news, especially my daughter, his sweetheart of more than a year.

We miss Mike so much. He had become part of our family. I miss hearing him play piano and sing with Ria. It is such a beautiful love they shared and will always share. His memorial is this Saturday, outside of San Andreas, May 12th at 2:00. It is so hard to say goodbye to the life we had and the life we planned on having with Mike in our family. Love and blessings to all of Mike's family and friends from us...Kerry, Ria, Green, and Ansel.

My nephew was one of the people involved in this terrible accident. I want to personally thank each and every one of the first responders who helped these kids. My family is forever indebted to you for your compassion and caring. The support of your small community will be very much appreciated in the difficult times to come. May God wrap his arms around the lost and take them home. And may He help heal the bodies, minds and hearts of those who are left behind....God Bless you all.
