Older Adult Outreach & Engagement Program Volunteer Training – Monday, May 14 & Monday May 21, 2012 – 6:00 – 8:30 am
Sonora, CA....Do you have a passion for helping others but haven’t found that just right volunteer opportunity? Consider spending time with an elder through the Older Adult Outreach and Engagement Program. Research shows that engagement activities keep our frail and/or isolated older adults engaged and instills a sense of belonging; slowing the progression of dementia and other age-related illnesses. Activities include visiting, reading, doing puzzles, crafts, or watching a favorite movie, as well as going on walks, out for lunch, to the .....
movies or a play, and more. Make a difference in an elder’s life by spending just one hour a week with them. All services are free to any older adult residing in Tuolumne and Calaveras County regardless of ethnicity, religion, or income.
Transportation is also a place where volunteers can make a much needed difference. The Outreach and Engagement Program assists in arranging transportation for doctor’s appointments, to the pharmacy, grocery shopping, and other excursions. In return the Program offers mileage reimbursement to volunteers for their assistance in addressing this serious problem for our foothill older adults.
